Tracing an old phone

I need to trace an old mobile phone of mine that was bought around 2008 / 2009. I have the then telephone number but not the imei number. With just the telephone number would I be able to trace the seller of the phone? It is relevent in a court case I am involved in.

i do not think you can trace the seller of a phone i do think the police needs a warrent i do not think phone companys keep log that far back. but you should notice imei's phones you had it would of make it easyer even in court case's

The phone number of the phone is irrelevant as the SIM card could be a PAYG sim and put in any phone so it does not prove who tbe owner was or where the phone is / was

The only possible way of finding who used the phone from the IMEI is for the network to disclose it and they will not do that to you even if they still had records that old fur tou the DPA.
