There are dozens and dozens of threads on the forum all asking the same question - have a search - and the answer is always the same. Only the original owner can get an iPhone unlocked. Your friend will need to ask Vodafone to unlock the phone.

Ok you get a load of duff info on this thread - I have just done this so disregard all above.
1. Buy a PAYG Sim
2. Top up with £5 - send a few texts
3. Use online form and register the phone to you
4. Top up with £20 to pay unlcoking fee
5. Complete unlocking form
6. Wait for emails
7. Put in alternate Sim and plug into Itunes
This has worked for 2 people in my company as well.
We had ours done so that it can be used abroad.

Are vodafone thick , usless or what? infact all i think!
1st i call to unlock my phone, they take the £19.99 then i go on holiday for 2 weeks and still NOT unlocked (the advisor missed out in an extra digit ) no mail, no call no NOTHING to tell me
SO i fill in an online form and a week later still NOTHING - you dont get a reference number doin it online.
I speak to an advisor who cant help but said to take it to a store to unlock it|? but then cant tell me which stores DO unlock it . So i call up and the "help with unlocking your iphone" tells me to go the the page with the request form , bringing me back to square one! Basically going from pillar to post and getting NOWHERE
and to think i thought to join vodafone pay monthly - what a croc of crap basically!!

Hi there manicmandaonly,
Thanks for your post. I'm sorry this wasn't done.
When you submit the form, you normally get an auto-reply into your inbox, spam or junk folders. If there's nothing from us in any of them, we didn't get your request.
Could you check for me and let me know the reference? It'll look similar to #12345678.
If there's nothing there, click here and send us your details so we can make the request again.
Alternatively, please submit your unlock request here.

Yes its #4558419
i also tried it again - #4558260
and again #4520142
Although i Did get ONE reply back saying : Your request for an unlock code has been received and the reference number for your request is 1040810
But still nothing?
I think thats pretty bad considering it was an advisor the first time on the phone putting an extra digit in, made to wait 2 weeks and nothing for his mistake and still nothing back a week later after applying online!
