Flashing power light only

FixmySS
4: Newbie

Ver 1 SS, has been ok for about half the time but has not worked in the past 3-4 weeks.  Had a range of various lilghts - flashing, alternating....  About a week ago it settled into just flashing power light.

I have read many many pages of threads and other website pages - I have checked and rechecked cables etc, and have reset several times.  All to no avail.  I am very frustrated and need some help, even if the advice is that the Ver 1 SS has failed and I need to replace it.

Other threads have asked for the below information:

Router: Netgear DGN2000

SS ser no: 21197083799

ISP: Talk Talk

Please advise what to do, thanks.

1 ACCEPTED SOLUTION

I borrowed a router and the SS was ok so now have installed a new router and SS is fine.

It has taken over 3 months of frustration - notes on this forum, private messages, vodafone support via e mail, calls to vodafone and my ISP, hours spent diagnosing and trying things....and over 870 people have followed this thread.

Seems that for a completely unknown reason, the router stopped working with SS.  Nowhere was router fault seen as possible cause - suggest that is added to the help file.

But it has proved that all the talk about ports, portforwarding and the apparent 'essential' need for a dynamic IP address.....are all unecessary.

I appreciate the help I have received but if any other product I owned needed 3 months of follow-up then I would return it on the spot and buy a competitor product.  Vodafone monopoly prevents that.

Good luck to everyone else.

Posting additional info as requested on other threads.  Please note that I am not an IT Consultant - and find it bizarre that you expect your customers to go to this level of detail in providing diagnostic information.  Pls also confirm that none of this data is compromising my own pc security.

Hi FixmySS,

You don’t need to worry about the information that you have posted because we would never ask for information that could compromise your security on a public forum.

I’ve checked your Sure Signal registration and can see that a location profile change has been detected.

To get this sorted simply log into your online account and in the Sure Signal admin section change the postcode of the Sure Signal to ST1 5GP and then change this back.

Once you have done this you will then need to reset your Sure Signal.

Reset your Sure Signal:

For versions 1 and 2:

-Hold in the reset button until all lights go solid

-Pull the power lead out with the reset button still pushed in

-Continue to hold down the reset button and reconnect the power lead

-Wait for all lights to come on and then release the reset button

James

Thansk James - have done exactly as requested but after period with solid power light....am back to flashing power light again.  Will it take time to 'connect/register'?  Thanks.

Hi FixmySS,

It will normally take about an hour to reconnect.

James

James - 2.5 hours have passed and still flashing power light. Any other ideas please?  Thanks

Hi FixmySS,

Thank you for getting back to me.

I can see that the location profile has now updated but the Sure Signal still hasn’t updated on the server.

I can see from your traceroute that the Sure Signal is reaching our server but there is something stopping it from connecting.

So that we can see where the communication breakdown it we need to look at the route it is taking through our server.

To do this please can you perform a pathping to our server address 85.205.116.10?

  1. Click Start.
  2. Click the Start Search text field.
  3. Type CMD. Right-click on the first result, cmd.exe, and select Run as Administrator.
  4. Type pathping 85.205.116.10 > C:\pathping.txt and press Enter.
  5. A file will be created on your C:\ drive called "pathping.txt" that contains the pathping information. Please be patient while waiting for the pathping command to complete; it will take several minutes to finish unless an error occurs. You will know it is done when the command prompt reappears.
  6. You can find the pathping.txt file by navigating to your C:\ drive, via the Start Menu >  Computer > Local Disk (C: )

Simply paste this into your reply on the eForum.

An extra test that you can do is to see if the Sure Signal works in a different location (neighbours, family or friends house) as this will rule out an equipment fault.

James

Thanks James - as requested:

Hi FixmySS,

Please can you take a look at this thread here for suggestions on how to ensure the Netgear DGN2000 is set up to work with the Sure Signal.

There are some great tips in that thread so give it a try and let me know how you get on.

Thanks,

Jenny

Which thread please?  I am sure I found a thread 2 wks ago when striving to fix this myself but it didn't make any difference.

I ran the trace that you asked for - what does it tell you please?

Thanks
