Hi charlesr,
If the Sure Signal still isn't working, can you just try one more thing, a factory reset. This can be done by holding the reset button on the back in for 30 seconds until all the lights reset.
If that still doesn't fix things for you, then please reply to the email I sent you the other day with all the details and I'll be in touch as soon as I can.
Kind Regards,
George.

Flashing Power Light problem.....
I have a Vodafone Sure Signal which I am trying to use with a D-Link 2680 router on TalkTalk broadband. My broadband is new to us and has been set up within the last 14 days, after initial problems with slow broadband speed, talktalk revealed they had a 1mbps cap on our account. This is now rectified with an average speed of 6 mbps and has been for a couple of days, so we were hopeful that the Sure Signal would now work but unfortunately not.
I have no computer experience, but have religiously spent all day following your trouble shooting hints with no luck.
The Sure Signal serial number is 21230492437
I have opened ports on the router as follows:-
8 = TCP
50 = TCP
500 = UPD
4500 = UPD
123 = UPD
I have checked the Sure Signal's MAC code is listed under connected clients.
Twice today I have achieved the first stage in setting up with the @, the phone and the tick sign blinking which lasted for about 10 minutes each time and then reverted to a flashing power light.
If it makes any difference we have had the Sure Signal box plugged in for about 10 days, but it has been switched on and off today several times and the reset button pressed, again several times.
I rang the speed test and achieved a speed of 6.8 mbps and have copied and pasted the results of the tracert below.

Hi,
I have a sure signal, been working fine for about a year. Yesterday I tried to re-add a vodafone number that hasn't been used for about 4 months. Since then I have lost the signal on my phone (the main one which has been working) and also the number I tried to re-add. The connections are all good, I have reset the router (Netgear DG834G) and also the Sure signal itself. Still had the solid top green light on. Tried a factory reset as per your instructions about 2 hours ago and since then the top light is constantly flashing. Is it possible for you to resynch my sure signal? The s/n is 21224659983 ISP Is Talk Talk
Also anything else I could try as everything was working perfectly prior to me adding a number and re setting it yesterday.
Thanks.

Hi,
Box was back to 3 lights and working again this morning. However the second number I added is giving some issues. It did belong to my daughter who used it at home via the sure signal in a HTC Wildfire phone. She has since moved out and got another contract. My wife has taken over my daughters sim and we are trying to use it in my wifes phone which is a very basic LG phone. This is where the problem starts, the Suresignal doesn't seem able to get a signal to the Sim in the LG phone. If I take the sim out and try it in my phone HTC Desire it work full strength and 3 g.
Any ideas?

Hey MBB2011,
Thanks for your post about your Sure Signal.
I've taken a look at the serial number and I can't see that its connected to our network since you registered it on the 11th of this month. With this in mind I've performed a resync of the device and this has just gone through so I now need you to factory reset the unit please:
- Hold down the reset button till all the lights come on or flash (about 30 seconds)
- Keeping the reset button held, remove and re-insert the power lead
- Once all the lights come on or flash, release the reset button
- The VSS should come online in about an hour
Please let me know how you get on.
Hey jesmic,
It's great you've managed to get the VSS working. Thanks for the update. Which model LG is your wife using and is it a 3G enabled handset? I have a feeling this is the cause of your wife being unable to pick up a signal, especially if you're connected fine.
Cheers to you both,
Lee

Hi Lee,
Many thanks for your prompt reply and I am very pleased to say that the Sure Signal is now up and running. For the record and to help others with a similer problem, I did have to do the factory reset twice as following the first time the power light simply went back to flashing again.
Anyway, hopefully all sorted now.
Thanks again!!

Please help.
I've tried EVERYTHING mentioned in this looong thread. Even clued myself up on Port Forwarding. All I have is a steady power light despite everything I do, resets and re-registering, the lot.
The problem arose when I changed my wifi/homehub network key/password.
I've done the port forwarding thing using: http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwar
The DCHP stuff is enabled (unchanged).
Ive even disabled the Homehub Firewall, reset, checked and still no joy.
My Sure Signal is 21197129766
BT Homehub 2.0 Type B
Thank you in advance.

Hi. George. I replied to your email 4 days ago. This morning when I woke up, the SS was working. Did you do anything (if so, thanks)? I didn't touch anything at my end. Just wondering. Obviously happy it's now performing again.

I changed broadband provider from IDNet to Sky Broadband on MOnday of last week (Nov21st).
Since then, I havent had any VSS service.
I am using the same router with the new provider (having changed ADSL settings of course). It's a Belkin F5D8635-4v1. VSS worked reasonably well when I was with IDNet.
my IP address is 2.120.230.214
my VSS serial is 21227738115
I called Vodafone support. The lady I spoke to re-synced my VSS, and told me to do a factory reset. I tried this, but still no luck. All I get is the flashing single light (top light).
Please help!
thanks, Gustav.

Hi JamesBB1980,
To be honest with you as you have already checked all of the ports the next step is to do a speed test.
Please can you let me know the results of this?
Gustavhl,
We have done another re sync for you today, please can you also try another reset and if this doesn’t work you will then need to de register the Sure Signal and register the sure Signal again.
Give this a go and let me know how you get on.

Dear James,
Still no improvement here. Can you see whether my VSS has had any connection with your systems? Should I de-register and re-register now?

Hi there
I too am having trouble with a steady power light. The suresignal was previously working fine, but suddenly about 8 days ago stopped working. I have worked through the check list in George's initial post & done a reset on both the router & the suresignal with no joy. On the sure signal after a minute or so the tick light starts flashing, but then stops & I'm left with just the power light.
My serial number is 21197051002.
I doubt this has anything to do with it, but I have been recieving texts saying that my sure signal might have moved, but this has been down to the fact that I have changed providers. The suresignal was however working when I initially swapped provider to the new one. I have since 'updated' my postcode as instructed.
Any ideas? ![]()

Hey guys,
I'll answer each of you in turn....
@ gusthavi - Your VSS connected this morning at 1:53. Please let me know if you're still having problems.
@ kiwizzard - I've checked your serial number and it appears to be faulty. Please reply to my email and we'll get a replacement sorted as soon as we can.
@ billroth - We've already answered this in your other threads, for example here. I'd also like to point out that just because there's a steady power light, it doesn't mean we're blocking a certain IP or range.
Cheers,
Lee

I now have a VSS which is registered. I am using an adsl connection with a static IP and have a continuously flashing light one, dispite a number of factory resets..
Re the blocked ip ranges, I can monitor all traffic thru my router and can see unanswered udp calls to your ip ranges (the ones listed elsewhere to either open ports or port forward). Traceroute times out at the ip address shown in other posts.
As I am using connections from two small isps I remain convinced (as in other posts) that these ip ranges are not on the whitelist.
Maybe a resync your end would be interesting but does your post imply you are *not* whitelisting only certain ips? I think we need to get to the bottom of this..
Cheers.

I forgot to add Ican see traffic on ports 500,4500 and 123 going out but no reply coming back. This combined with the tracert leads me to beleive my ips are not being responded to....

Took delivery of suresignal on Friday and registered just over 24 hours ago and just get the red power light. I can see the unit on my network (have assigned it a static IP) and have opened up the 50/500/4500 ports on my Netgear DG834N router (on BT Business Broadband). I can see the SS unit sending UDP packets to 212.183.133.130/131/137/139/178/179 which after the initial 10 minute try it continues to do every 9 minutes or so (sending 2 tries each time). The router log is showing no inbound responses from Vodafone.
The serial number for the unit is 40111625832. Any thoughts on why it is not working?

Hi,
Purchased a new VSS last week and registered on my account and got the confirmation email saying it was active
Having plugged it in all I get is a constant red power light, the signal light flashes for about 10 minutes after power on the goes out
The serail number is 40111634487
I have a non upnp router (a Cisco 880) and have set the dhcp and port forwarding as shown below

Hi billroth,
I have answered your post this morning in your other thread.
DRE1975,
Your Sure Signal is registered OK however; there is no link between the Sure Signal and your internet connection.
This would normally indicate that there is an issue with the ports on the router; please can you take a look at the port forwarding troubleshooting on our support posts and let me know how you get on.
Merewords,
This is a bit of a strange one as the power light goes out after 10 minutes, so we can look at this please can you reset the router and then reset the Sure Signal by doing the following;
Hold down the reset button until all the lights show (about 30 seconds)
Keeping the reset button held down, remove then re-insert the power lead.
Once all lights display release the reset button.
The Sure Signal will come online in around 1 hour.
If this still doesn’t resolve the issue, please can you do a trace route by;
Click on Start and select Run
Type CMD into the Run box and press enter/click ok
A black box will appear.
In this box type tracert 212.183.133.177 press Enter
Paste the output of this command into your reply.
Regards
James

I've spent literally hours going through the port forwarding troubleshooting already, including opening the ports, rebooting the router, rebooting the VSS unit etc. The Router Logs suggest that the VSS unit is sending requests to the vodafone servers but is there any way to determine from my end if the signal is actually making it out of my router (I'm using a Mac)?
It probably doesn't help, but I pinged several well known websites (eg BBC website) from my Mac last night and got normal responses back (0% packet loss). When I tried to ping the VSS server IPs that the VSS unit was trying to contact I got no response (100% packet loss).
