Hi J444rvy,
Can you confirm for me that you've undertaken all the steps I've quoted above?
Have you also checked your download speeds?
Can you let me know your speeds please?
Cheers,

Could you reply to my posts above?
I have a VSS + leads+ router working on one ISP but not on another. Download and upload speeds are good with both broadband suppliers.
Accepting that it is probably the routing of the ISP that is at fault in the house where VSS will not work, how can i change to an ISP that does work?
Or is there more to tell?
regards

Still waiting for a reply about packet loss and latency. (does the BT exchange or phone line supplier come into this?) If I subscribe to Vodafone's suggestion that ISP is at fault (and I begin to go along with this), how about a black list and white list of ISP's who are known not to support VSS or who are known to work with VSS. If it means spending more money to change ISP, at least lets have some statistics.

Hi r1chardc,
Sorry I missed your posts.
I'm afraid the first quote is way over my head and without doubt, I'll have to refer this one to one of my more exteemed colleagues.
Your suggestion of a black and white list for ISP's known not to work and those that do work is an excellent one.
Why don't you start a new thread about it and other users can contribute?
I'll get back to you on the first quotation.
Cheers,
LeeH

Thanks for suggestion.
I have started topic "SureSignal working configurations" looking for working / non working configurations outside of the usual forum problems.

Hi r1chardc,
I'll pop a link to your thread.
Thanks,
eForum Fast Response
I received thsi response to my thread:
Hi r1chardc,
We've already started compiling this list here: http://www.notsosure...ompatible-isps/
The issues you're seeing with Fasthosts are likely to be caused by the routing information you've already found. Due to restrictions in place as part of Vodafone's license they have to work hard to ensure that they only expose Vodafone UK signal in the UK and hence are using IP geolocation as a method of preventing people taking Sure Signals abroad.
If the Vodafone lookup locates the Fasthosts IP blocks as being in Germany, the Sure Signal will be prevented from completing its registration (consistent with the power light flashing that you've mentioned).
Vodafone have methods in place to add IP blocks to their gateway but you'll need Fasthosts to take this up with Vodafone directly. We're able to provide the relevant contact details to a Fasthosts representative if required.
Hope that helps.

Why oh why could not someone from Vodafone have pointed out this "overseas route" problem in this forum: I had also checked other correspondents IP routes and sure enough routing out of teh UK and back in ties up with VSS not working.

I've had my Sure Signal since April this year and has always worked ok-ish. It would work for a couple of days and then would find my phone wouldn't have any signal and not all the lights would be working on the Sure Signal - so I would go and reset the box (by just holding the button on the back of the unit until all lights flashed together) and then 5 minutes later I would have full signal again. It's a bit of a pain, but have got used to doing it now!!
I have noticed now that my Sure Signal has not worked since Saturday. 3 days without signal at home - i'm pretty annoyed. At first I just thought it would need the quick reset I always do. Did this - nothing resolved. I have then tried to search for a resolution on here but I seem to have done everything I can do? I have just done a factory reset and that hasn't done anything and I have also checked that it is still registered in my online account and everything seems normal. I'm not technical minded at all - so all this chit chat about IP addresses in the router settings etc etc is just baffling me! It was working perfectly fine until Saturday morning and there are the flahsing lights by the reset button, so it's definitly working on something? I have posted a topic about it and lots of other customers are having the exact same problems and have had no contact from Vodafone. Very upset. My internet connection is working perfectly and no problems there and there never have been, like I say, the SS was best buds with the router! Very strange. Please help asap, as I am paying £48+ a month for a phone I can't even use at home! Waste of my money at the moment.
Thanks

Who is your internet supplier?
What is your normal / best download speed?
Have you ever had broadband problems? I once has a situation when I lost my phone after weeks of noise, but internet stayed working. The problem was a BT underground fault affecting one wire of the copper pair: the internet was working half speed down one wire.
Have you ever tried the Vodafone pathping test that highlights the path your router / ISP use to connect to web sites. This has helped me pinpoint potential (not confirmed by Vodafone) problem with internet supplier.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
My ISP is Orange but still using a Wanadoo router. This was all set up by my mum while I was at uni so I don't know too much detail about the service we have.
Have never had any broadband problems at all - ever! And like I say, the Sure Signal was working fine before. Very odd how it suddenly stopped working.
What is the Vodafone pathping test? Would this help identify anything to do with Sure Signal?
Thanks again for your help

Hi
From Post #5 in Forum 69740 - "Another user with the connection dropping problem Lights 12&4 on for 1 min, then 2&4 go out, come back on for 1 min.." August 2010
-Go to Start > Search
-Type CMD
-Right click cmd.exe the search result and click "run as administrator"
(In Vista click continue)
-For Windows XP simply click run and type CMD then enter
-In the command prompt window type in pathping 212.183.133.181
This will run a pathping to our server and will indicate where any problems may lie. If you could attempt this when the Sure Signal is working correctly and then when it's not and then post the two screenshots, I'll be able to compare the difference and see where the issue lies.
Forget the two screen shots, if you could copy what pathping comes up with now, it might highlight packet loss or bottlenecks. Unfortunately I have discovered that Internet Providers can alter their settings that create firewall barriers.

Hi,
I have just checked the firewall settings for my router and there is no reason why it would reject the Sure Signal. I did another factory reset about half hour ago and the lights are flashing about (still....!) like I am using it for the first time, but then also pressed the 'pair' button on my router whilst doing the reset, so I am hoping this factory reset has sorted the problem. We'll see!!
Thanks for your help

Have now found some other help and believe I have set up everything correctly, but my SS status at Vodafone is activepending/ pendingactive and has been since I got a replacement box some months ago!!
Have phoned technical suport a few times, but no-one able to do a reset at that end.
If I try and de-register I am told "your sure signal is not registered", if I try and register I am told "your Sure Signal is already registered"
Please help and advise how I can get out of this dead end??

Well, since my Sure Signal stopped working on Saturday morning... It is finally sorted!! If your Sure Signal still only has a power light on, then try what I did to get it working again for full signal...
- Press & hold the reset button on the Sure Signal and count slowly to 10
- Still holding the reset button, remove the power cable from the Sure Signal and count slowly to 20
- Still holding the reset button, put the power cable back into the Sure Signal and count slowly to 10, and whilst doing this, I also pressed the pairing button on my router - I don't know why i thought to do this but thought maybe it would help connect them??
- Release the reset button and pair button on router
- The power light should stay on and look as though nothing has happened
- All lights will flash through once
- Then the first 3 lights will flash about for a while - like it does when you very first used the Sure Signal
- After a couple of hours, the 3 lights had stopped flashing and just the first 2 buttons were lit
- I left it over night and then this morning, I had full signal!
Good Luck peeps!

I too have a sky netgear router with VSS not working and giving the solid power light. I have had the VSS since march this year. The 1st one I received only liked one phone being used at a time, if two people were using phones it would suddenly cut the calls off and even though full bars and 3G was displayed no inbound or outbound calls could be made. After weeks on calls to 191 I ended up turning the damn thing off.
I eventually regained the patience to start again and after a number of hours with support they decided the box needed replacing. The current fault at this point was that I could receive inbound calls, send and received SMS and access the internet but if I tried to dial out then I would get a call failed message on the handset and the person I was callig would get a single 'one bell' ring before the call cut off.
The replacement box was received and had the same problem. Then a few weeks ago I came to revisit the problem and found that the box would not connect and only displayed the solid green power light. I have tried factory reset and tried to open the ports but found little support from anyone I have spoken to. Sky tell me its a vodafone issue and VF tell me to speak to Sky.
Very frustrated user who can't use the phones he's paying for.
Try following the instructions as per my post #85 on page 5 of this thread. It has been rock solid since.

It went down yesterday and has been down since. I currently have only a flashing power light on the box. It is connected to my router, though, and has been assigned an IP address.
I've not changed anything since it was last working, so don't really understand whats going on. I've tried resetting, multiple times.
this is very frustrating as I work from home and need my mobile signal to do that properly.
Can someone please help.
