Getting Vodaphone Sure Signal to work on EE Bright Box

My Vodaphone Sure Signal worked fine with a Orange livebox router, but since i was upgraded to the EE Bright Box it wont work.

Vodaphone told me that for the Sure signal to be working the router must have the below ports to be opened for the Suresignal box under 2 protocols TCP & UDP through the ISP

Port No.8

Port No 50

Port No 123

Port No 500

Port No 4500

I rang EE and the nice Indian lady said something about they wouldn't help and I would have to find out how to get it working myself.

My Vodafone Sure Signal is version 1 with 4 lights. The top power light remains on constant. Serial no: 21231320819

Can anyone offer any advice please ?

A chap on the EE Forum suggested that 9 times out or 10 , the problem is that Vodafone haven't white-listed your EE external IP address on their systems.

Hi,

Have you tried a full reset of the unit?

I recently changed routers and the SS (v1) required a full reset before it would start working properly again.

if i remember rightly to do this you hold down the reset button, remove the power cable, wait 5-10secs reinsert the power cable, release the reset button. All being well it should go through it's installation process again (might take a couple hours) and you'll be back up and running.

thanks but I have tried a full reset a couple of times with no success.

There must be some settings on the router that need tweaked to allow uPnP
devices to connect to the network.
Apologies but I'm not familiar with this model so I can't help much with
what needs changed there. There may be something in the user guide or on
the help sections of EE's website telling you how to do this.

The only alternative should that not work is to manually set up port
forwarding, again this process is specific to each router so it might need
someone with the same model to help out here.

Sorry not of much help there am I, tried my best.

Hi bermuda_onion,

The Sure Signal connected in the middle of the night so something is working, but it's not holding the connection.

It suggests the IP address is correct, but if you can confirm that we'll make sure it's not blocked.

I've also done a resync on our system, so try a fresh reset of the Sure Signal for me to pick this up:

For Sure Signal version 1 or 2:

  • Hold down the reset button until all the lights show (about 30 seconds)
  • Keeping the reset button held down, remove then re-insert the power lead.
  • Once all lights display release the reset button.
  • The Sure Signal will come online in around 1 hour.

For Sure Signal version 3:

  • Locate the button on the base of the box next to the Ethernet ports.
  • Press and hold the button for approximately 30 seconds.
  • Once the lights come back on, release the button.
  • The Sure Signal will come online in around 1 hour.

If this fails, please confirm the following:

Your speed test results from here.

Your ping test results from here.

The results of a traceroute.

VSS Traceroute command

On a PC:

Click on Start and select Run

Type CMD into the Run box and press enter/click ok

A black box will appear.

In this box type tracert 212.183.133.177 press Enter

Paste the output of this command into your reply.

This will help us get the quickest possible resolution for you.

Thanks

Dave

Hi Bermuda_onion,

Thanks for getting back to us.

All of the registration, speeds and traceroute look fine and I can see it connected again last night.

Have you completed the port forwarding setup on the router?

What is the exact make and model of the router?

Are you still only seeing the solid power light?

Is the router assigning an IP address to the Sure Signal?

Are there any firewall settings on the router that you can lower to see if this is causing a problem?

When did you change to the EE Bright Box?

James

Hi,

I'm not sure how to complete the port forwarding setup on the router. Under NAT I have Port Forwarding. The fields to fill in there are:

LAN IP Address            Protocol Type                         Lan Port           Public Port              Enable

1.    192.168.1.___              TCP or UDP or TCP/UDP            ____                 _____                   Yes / No

2.    192.168.2 ___              TCP or UDP or TCP/UDP            ____                 _____                   Yes / No

3.  etc

There is no exact make and model of the router anywhere. Its just referred to as EE Brightbox Wireless Router

Yes still seeing only a solid power light

the router had NOT assigned an IP address to the Sure Signal.but appears to have now - referring to it as an Unknown device.

I don't see any firewall settings on the router that I can lower

I changed to the EE Bright Box around a month ago

Ok, Each line will need to be

IP of suresignal

both protocols

port number (ie 500)

same port number

enabled yes

Do a line for each of the ports listed at the top of this thread and see if it helps.
