Issues with additional VSS (v3) and BT Home Hub 3

Hi All,

Thanks in advance of your help on this one.

I am trying to sort out an issue that my MD is having at home so its a brownie point winning potential for me here!!

Basically he has had a V1 VSS for some years, but due to the layout of his house there are still some reception dead spots.  I read on the forums that you "can" run more than one VSS from the same broadband line.  However the new v3 that was purchased refuses to work.  All it does is constantkly show that it is updating (first symbol white and flashing slowly).  Whereas the V1 is still going strong.

I have pre-empted your information requests and duly attach them below:

Hi Shaun,

Question - does the V3 spring into life (after leaving long enough to download it's settings) if you turn the V1 off and hit the reset button on the V3?

It may be the router in use only allows 1 VPN connection of the type that the suresignal uses to any particular destination.

Hi Grolschuk,

That could well be the answer!  I must admit I haven't tested this theory yet and will only be able to do so when I am next at the MDs house (possibly next week).

As soon as I have a definitive answer I will post back.

Thanks

Shaun

Hi Grolschuk,

As promnised I have an update for you.  Strangely, both VSS boxes are now working and I have got them to work by fluke as follows:

Originally the V1 was connected directly to the router downstairs and worked fine, and the V3 was connected via an ethernet connection in a separate office, through a hub to the router and did not work.  The MDs house has ethernet connections in all rooms and a main hub by the router connecting it all (professional set-up £££)!

Just as an after thought and to eliminate any other possible cause of the problems I swapped the two over so that the V3 was now connected downstairs directly to the router and the V1 via the ethernet hub in the office upstairs.  As I say, they now both work perfectly!  No rhyme or reason, but hey thats technology for you.

Great news, thanks for the update :Smiling:

I just hope he didn't want the technical explanation on what was up and what/why you did to fix it :Smiling:
