Have you forwarded the ports correctly using portforward.com's step by step tutorials on how to set it up. As the ports could be the problem

Edit: that said my sure signal stopped working today for no reason........

Re: New Sure Signal - Steady Power Light Only

I have forwarded ports as per instructions.

I have reset the SS several times and waited for several hours inbetween - sadly no joy.

Can Vodafone check that the SS is connecting correctly and if not try a resync maybe?

Forgot to say on VM as ISP 30Mb

Re: New Sure Signal - Steady Power Light Only

No worries.

It could be a potential outage problem

Re: New Sure Signal - Steady Power Light Only

Hi simstr,

Let us know how that one works for you.

The single power light usually signifies a possible internet or data port issue, so if the issue is one of these then you'd see no change. Looking at the serial number, the history of the Sure Signal you have had issues with shows intermittent errors, which would also lead me to suspect something changeable like the connection. There are a few things we can check whilst you're waiting to help diagnose this further:

 - Does the Sure Signal show as fully registered on My Account? If anything looks out of place here it may signify a

 - Do you have any other connectivity issues through the router?

 - Did you try rebooting both the Sure Signal and router together, then switch the router back on alone for two minutes, then power up the Sure Signal? If there was an issue communicating between them then this would clear out both ends.

 - Have you tried a different Ethernet cable to connect the Sure Signal to the router?

 - Can you try a speedcheck to ensure the connection meets the minimum requirements?

 - Try a trace route on your PC to see if there is anything affecting the connection itself:

  • On a PC :
  • Click on Start  and select Run
  • Type CMD into the Run box and press enter/click ok
  • A black box will appear.
  • In this box type tracert 212.183.133.177    press Enter
  • Paste the output of this command into your reply.

Let us know the results of these checks.

Re: New Sure Signal - Steady Power Light Only Asus RT-N56U

I have solved the problem I think!

For anyone with an Asus RT-N56U I did the following:

Forwarded the recomended ports as per Vodafone advice - SS didn't work

Assigned a static int IP address to the SS - SS didn't work

Under advanced settings on the DMZ tab enabled both L2TP and IPsec VPN passthrough and rebooted the router then the SS - SS now all working - very happy!

I hope this helps someone.

I have to say that Vodafone telephone technical support was not 'brilliant' and I cannot believe that a consumer product should be so difficult to setup.....

Spent yesterday evening setting up this router and the SS was the only thing that didn't seem to work. Just added the settings that simstr suggested and now up and running again. Thanks to simstr.

Re: New Sure Signal - Steady Power Light Only Asus RT-N56U

Many thanks to simstr for the "DMZ tab enabled both L2TP and IPsec VPN passthrough " settings for the Asus RT-N56U.  I had been struggling for a few hours to get my SS to work before finding the post by simstr.

Shame on you Vodafone for not providing any useful technical support!  I understand that there are a lot of routers out there which all implement their interfaces differently, but if Vodafone doesn't provide any technical details or descriptions on what protocols their SureSignal uses, how do they expect users to interpret the required router settings?  Guess work!!  Vodafone must know what IP (Internet Protocol) messages are being used.

Thanks again simstr.

Re: New Sure Signal - Steady Power Light Only Asus RT-N56U

simstr - glad you got yours working, I'm having the same problem so will look into it tonight.

But I wanted to clarify something:

- did you only enable the VPN passthrough (L2TP/IPSEC) or did you have to setup static IP and port forwarding too?

thanks,

Alan.

Re: New Sure Signal - Steady Power Light Only Asus RT-N56U

Answered my own query - I only needed to enable the VPN passthrough (both LT2P and IPSEC). No need for port forwarding or static IP since uPNP should take care of that.

Seems to be all working. Hope this helps someone else!
