Hey Guys,
Many thanks for your posts here.
I have checked all of the IP addresses given and can confirm that they are all on the whitelist and not being blocked.

Thanks for the ip confirmation.
I've followed the instructions carefully but after 5 days of trying I can't get the VSS (version 2) to work.
Situation is as follows:
- DHCP fixed reserve ip address on LAN. No problem with this. I can ping the local IP
- Have reset the VSS numerous times.
- Have left the VSS for 48 hours and 24 hours respectively and no solution
- ISP is BT Broadband (static ip address)
- Router is Draytek 2955
- Ethernet cable is fine
Symptons on VSS are that on reboot/reset the power light is on and I get the two lights flashing for about 10 minutes and then nothing.
Traceroute is:
1 81.134.112.1 30 ms
2 213.120.182.141 30 ms
3 213.120.161.82 30 ms
4 217.41.222.78 30 ms
5 217.41.222.178 30 ms
6 109.159.248.78 30 ms
7 109.159.248.8 40 ms
8 109.159.254.205 40 ms
9 195.66.224.124 40 ms
10 85.205.116.2 40 ms
11 Request timed out. *
12 Request timed out. *
Trace complete.
Speedtest is:
42ms ping
6.35 Mbps downstream
0.37 Mbps upstream
VSS is registered (I have the email) and activated (I can see this in my Vodafone online account).
Max MTU is only 1492 (not 1500) - and this is what is set on the router. Accept large/fragmented packets is on.
Any thoughts please before I return this unit for a refund?
thanks

Interesting response.
No doubt the issue is CURRENTLY to do with the fact that my VSS is now de-registered. The question is what about the last week I've spent when it was registered trying everything I know and every trick in the book to get it to work?
I deregistered the VSS myself earlier today with a view to re-registering it immediately as part of an attempt to reset everything. I should have known better as guess what the ability to register is falling over today (see error message below). I tried since this morning to re-register my VSS but get the same error on several computers on 3 separate networks. In the last 7 days the Vodafone website, account profile and internal systems have all been unavailable. I simply don't believe that anyone with half a brain would schedule planned downtime for the middle of the day during the week. If we did that with the systems I manage then we'd be out on our ear instantly.
I have to say that in 15 years of being an IT professional I've never come across such a poor product which is totally unfit for purpose. I can only imagine the small team of people working on VSS support must be firefighting day in day out between flakey Vodafone systems and irate users.
I will try to re-register the VSS one final time as soon as your systems come back to life but I'm fearing that this is a useless lump of white plastic and is destined to join the probably hundreds that you receive back each month with similar stories from disgruntled users.
Here's the message you get when attempting to register the VSS:
Error invoking portlet "VAPGatewayController"
