Satellite Broadband

We have connected our Sure Signal to a Netgear DG834G router which is connected to a Tooway satellite modem.

Both light flash for 10 minutes then both go out.

Should this work using a satellite broadband link

Re: Satellite Broadband

Hi there

My gut feeling would be the latency inherent to a satellite connection will prevent the Sure Signal from working

Re: Satellite Broadband

Very unlikely to work over satellite.

Re: Satellite Broadband

Hi Hollywood.

This is a good question.:smileyindifferent:

We do not offer any support for the VSS (Vodafone Sure Signal) using a satellite modem, but theoretically, it may be possible to get it to work, but there may be a few issues preventing this.

As already stated by john32, latency is going to be an issue. Also the IP address allocated to the modem would need to be locked down to a geographic UK based address.

By all means try and go through the troubleshooting, but we can give no guarantees that this will be able to work.

Let me know if you’ve any further questions.

Regards

Re: Satellite Broadband

Tooway came up quite recently (this thread). They use a satellite service based in Italy and are likely to provide an Italian registered IP address (which VF won't accept).

Post your IP address or look it up on RIPE to be sure ...

Re: Satellite Broadband

Update:

Tooway KA sat registered UK users now have UK IPs

I supply / install such systems for a living and despite the latency issues SKYPE works great - delay only noticeable if conversation is between two KA sat users !

Currently ,Sure Signal doesn't work on Tooway KA .. something with how packets are broken up and reassembled.. but it DOES work on older tooway KU-band sat systems... ?!

Hope to test Sure Siganl on Avanti  KA systems this week - another KA Satellite system - and will revert...

NB: The very people who can't get decent broadband tend to be those in poor signal areas, too :smileysad:  It will be great if SS can work on the new, faster KA systems.

Re: Satellite Broadband

Have you had any luck with the suresignal over tooway kasat.

I am also an installer/user of tooway, I'm getting a suresignal box to test soon...

Thanks.
