Re: Sky MER and SS

Hi Lee,

Thats really strange as I have a text on my phone saying that it was registered? Anyway signed in registered the new box and for 12 hours it worked! This is exactly what happened with my old SS box the signal was very sketchy, in fact 95% downtime and only 5% of the time it worked.

As I write this I currently have no SS signal (I live in a Black Spot so I can only get SS signal or nothing) I have turned the SS box on and off - however the connection light is showing (left hand light).

Any ideas?

Thanks for the help so far

James

Re: Sky MER and SS

Hi James,

Strange indeed!

I can see it's now registered correctly :smileyhappy: It also connected with our servers this morning at 03:18 so there's definitely no issue with the VPN to our servers other than the fact it seems to drop for some reason.

Would it be possible for you to try the VSS on a separate connection, say at a friend's or relative's house? It'll then prove one way or the other, whether the VSS is faulty of not.

Cheers,

Lee

[ Edited ]

Hi johnthornhill,

Thanks for your post here.

I have taken a look at the traceroute that you have provided and can see that everything looks fine.

Looking at your serial number and the IP address I can see that;

The IP address is on the Whitelist,

The Sure signal last connected our server on 18/03/2012 and is showing as registered however due to the lack of connection since 18/03/12 it would suggest a problem where the VPN can not be created.

So we can check for any latency on the line, please can you do a ping test and post me the full results here, if this shows as having no issues the next thing to try would be to test the Sure Signal on a different internet connection.

James

Re: Sky MER and SS

Hi johnthornhill

Thanks for replying with the results of your Ping Test. Everything looks absolutely fine, your line quality is B which is very good and there's no packet loss so it's not an issue with your line.

As suggested by James the next step would be to try this on a different connection. If you're then encountering the same difficulties on an alternative connection please let us know.

Thanks

Simon

Re: Sky MER and SS

Ok Simon, I'll try that. Is it just a case of plugging the SS box into another router at a different location? John

Re: Sky MER and SS

Hey johnthornhill,

Absolutely! It may need time to reconfigure on the new connection but essentially you are correct.

Cheers,

Re: Sky MER and SS

Hey Lee,

I haven't had the change to try a new connection yet but some strange things have happened since.

The SS worked for a couple of days, then I had a couple of days where both system lights were flashing, now it's back to the original state of not working.

Any ideas?

Re: Sky MER and SS

Hi johnthornhill,

Thanks for your post once again.

Is the VSS now displaying a steady power light only? If so then could you try the steps in the first post in this thread? I've checked and the VSS again connected with our servers at 23:15 on the 28/03/12 so it would appear it's connecting but not able to maintain that connection.

If you could also try the earlier suggestion of using the VSS on another connection it would definitely rule out/in there being a problem with the VSS.

Cheers,

Lee

Re: Sky MER and SS

Hi danielpeel,

Thanks for your post here.

So that we can look at this for you please can you post me your Sure Signal serial number so that the registration can be checked.

Also I have noticed that the IP address that you have supplied is the internal IP address and as such this isn’t the IP that would be blocked.

So that we can look at your issue please can you reply to this post with the results of the following;

Your Speed test.

Your Ping Test.

Your External IP address.

Your traceroute.

VSS Traceroute command

  • On a PC :
  • Click on Start  and select Run
  • Type CMD into the Run box and press enter/click ok
  • A black box will appear.
  • In this box type tracert 212.183.133.177    press Enter
  • Paste the output of this command into your reply.

James

Re: Sky MER and SS

Hi johnthornhill,

Thanks for the update here.

I have taken another look at this for you today and can see that there has been no connection to the server made in the past 6 days.

I have now manually re-synced the sure signal again for you, please can you let this complete and test again, if it is that you then continue to get the solid power light on this connection and on the other connection you tested then we will need  to look at a possible replacement for your Sure signal.

James

Heres's my IP in the hope it might resolve the 3 day torturous debacle of phone support:
