Re: Sky MER and SS

[ Edited ]

Hi Jacko690

I suspect the problem is with your IP 192.168.0.3 isn’t a valid external IP address.

Could you provide the correct external IP address so we can check, I did attach a link above to get your external IP address. With out this we would be unable to help further.

Thanks

Re: Sky MER and SS

I too am having this issue. After using a new sky router- the old one died- my iPhone 4 kept asking for the password. Tried everything, even a new phone!!! Many phone calls and hours later Tracked it down to no SS box working, just power light on. Finally found this thread. My details are as follows
Ip address. 2.219.179.60

Mer

What else do you need? Do I need to leave my sure signal unplugged or plug it back in?
Please help weeks have passed and much frustration!

Re: Sky MER and SS

I have just spoken to a lovely guy at technical help and he remotely tried some settings on my sky router. I have reset the SS and am now waiting for a couple of hours to see if there's any joy. I do get some signal at home so am lucky there.
I just wanted to say that Vodafone customer services and technical help are amazing. Always polite and they will go that extra mile to try and sort it. They have just launched a SS 2 which may have assessed some of these cliches.
Fingers crossed, will update when I know if it's working.
Cheers

Re: Sky MER and SS

I have spoken to the tech guys again and the final answer is sure signal won't work with sky. I could change Internet provider but aside from this there is nothing I can do. They did say they will credit my account with a refund for the sure signal box.
Hope they develop something In the near future which does work with sky!

Re: Sky MER and SS

Hey guys,

Thanks for your posts.

I can confirm that all IP ranges have now been verified so we no longer need these unless specified.

@lockers1 - I have just forced a resync of your Sure Signal unit. Please allow up to 24 hours for service to resume. If after 24 hours nothing changes, then please perform a factory reset.

@burty123m - Could you provide me with your Sure Signal serial number please? Once I have this I should be able to do the same for you as I have for lockers1.

To factory reset:

  • Hold down the reset button until all the lights show (about 30 seconds) keeping the reset button held down.
  • Remove then re-insert the power lead.
  • Once all lights display release the reset button. The Sure Signal will come online in around 1 hour.

Cheers,

Lee

Re: Sky MER and SS

Hi jacko690,

Please accept my apologies for this error in overlooking your query. I promise there was nothing intentional going on :smileywink:

I have also forced a resync on your device.

As per my previous posts, please allow 24 hours and if service doesn't return then try a factory reset.

Let me know how you get on.

Cheers,

Lee

Re: Sky MER and SS

I can't believe that Vodafone are selling these devices knowing full well that for millions of UK customers they won't work!

I received the SS box today hoping it would mean my girlfriend and I would be able to soon work from home but not now! I've only just signed a new contract with Vodafone however if this SS box can't work I might have to discuss returning my new phone and moving to O2.

Can a technical member of the SS team not give concise information on if this will ever work for us MER internet users?

If there is a way to get it working then how? I received a text message to my phone saying the device was registered etc but nothing, all I have is Light 1 flashing.

Vodafone???

Its probably worth noting that there is no issue with MER, and, indeed never was.

The issue for Sky users was that, at the same time as they introduced MER, Sky started using a range of IP addresses that were originally registered in the US. The SS is a UK access only device - VF don't allow access from foreign registered IP addresses, and hence, were inadvertently blocking legitimate access from Sky users. VF [believe that they] have addressed this issue and have added the new ranges used by Sky to the 'white list' so that they are allowed.

This much is covered within this thread - providing you read it all carefully or have been watching it unfold over the weeks!

The most common issue new users have, myself included, is impatience ... expecting the SS to be up and running within seconds, minutes at the most. In practice it can several hours or in some cases days. So, assuming you left it switched on over night,  hopefully your box will be working by now ...

... if not, probably the first thing to do is post your external IP address so that the VF mods can check that it is within the allowed range.

Re: Sky MER and SS

Hi guys,

Thank you all for posting. I've received confirmation that the following IP range is currently blocked by our firewall 2.219.x.x.

This has been requested to be allowed through today though. Once the change has been implemented, I'll let you know.

Re: Sky MER and SS

Hi

I've also just changed over from BT to SKY broadband and my sure store device no longer works.

my ip address range is 2.219.xxx.xxx

.. and my sure store serial no is 21196958306

Can someone from the vodafone support team provide assistance in resolving this issue ?

Regards

Dave

Re: Sky MER and SS

after reading all the forum entries it is  not clear to me if this is something that can be resolved easily or it is a genuine incompatibility issue between the SKY provided sagem router and the protocols used by Vodafone within their sure store devices.

please can someone confirm ?

Regards

Dave
