Re: New Sure Signal - Steady Power Light Only

Hello

My suresignal worked until I was away for a while and disconnected the power to everything. On returning and switching all back on the SS won't work. I get the steady red light and occasional flashing of the other two for a while then back to steady redlight. I've tried deregister / re register and rebooting the SS leaving it for 24 hours - no change. The SS is plugged directly into my ntl250 cable modem (Virgin ISP) and then from the SS to my computer.

SS serial 40112016627

From Sppedtest.net

ping 3 6ms

d/l speed 8.46

u/l speed 0.99

Re: New Sure Signal - Steady Power Light Only

Hi, I have two Sure Signals V2 (both at the same address) and both were working perfectly until recently, when I swapped from BT residential to BT Business Bradband (in order to get a fixed IP address) about a week ago.

I DID NOT change my router (BT Homehub3) all I did was add my new BT business username and password to the old router and both my sure signals stopped working immediately. I do have internet access and I can still see both SS on the internal network.

As it is the holiday weekend, I checked on some e-forums and have made some changes to my router (opening the ports suggested, enabling VPN clamping etc, although both worked previosuly without those port opened) but all I get is the steady red power light. I have tried de-registering my sure signals on the vodafone website and then re-registering them. I have tried leaving the SS off overnight and then re-powering them.

The serial numbers on my SS boxes are

40120543554

40112840612

In the mean time I did a tracert. The outcome was

I am not sure what else I can try. It almost seems as though the SS were fine on my previous IP address ( although that was variable) but they dont like my new fixed one ?

Hope you can help. When they are working, the SS are fantastic !

New SureSignal, registered, upnp turned on, router rebooted, VSS reset, IP assigned to VSS, power light only.

ISP: Be
Router: Technicolor beBox V2
VSS serial: 40120922279

Will get money back if I don't hear anything.

Re: New Sure Signal - Steady Power Light Only

It seems like there are 5 questions for every answer in here and those answers don't actually answer anything. To say Vodafone don't really care or support this product would be an understatement. If it works you're lucky if it doesn't you're screwed.

Suresignal2, power light only

Hi,

Any suggestions welcome. My VSS2 has worked for about 2 months with no issues. Now it only has the red power light lit, nothing else. Tried rebooting the router, power cycling, left it for a couple of days. When powered back on both system and phone lights flash simultaneously for around 10 mins and then go off.

Router = DLink DSL-2640B

VSS2 S/N: 40110539927

Thanks in advance,

Dan.

Sure Signal - Power Light only - Virgin Media & NetGear

Hello,

I'm currently trying to set up my Sure Signal V2 for the second day running.

I have successfully registered my SS with Vodafone. I've had the text and it also says that it has been registered on my account.

Yesterday I started lookingthrough this forum to see if there was anything I could do.

I've tried:

Adding all the ports to the Port forward section of my router.

Assigning a static IP address to the SS - 192.168.1.3

I am on Virgin media and have done a Speed and ping test - ping:9ms, D/L:30Mbits, U/L:2.8Mbits

I 'was' using my SuperHub as the primary router and couldn't get it to work.

Today I went out and bought a Netgear WNR100 N150 Cable Router. I have repeated the steps of Adding the port Forward rules for this router also. BTW I have now got the superhub in 'modem only mode'.

I have performed a number of traceroutes to the instructed addresses and have the following results.

traceroute to 212.183.131.128 (212.183.131.128), 64 hops max, 52 byte packets

I have additionally tried adding the ip address of the SS to the DMZ, still no joy.

It has also been 24 hours since the initial registration.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

David

Re: Sure Signal - Power Light only - Virgin Media & NetGear

[ Edited ]

Hi guys,

A few of you to answer here, so for those that need them I'll leave the instructions and procedures at the bottom of the post, or I'll be repeating them way too often!

-------------------------------

notsosure - Thanks for confirming all those tests for me. Can you confirm your IP address for me as well, so we can check that?

Also, can you confirm that the Ethernet lights are showing on the back of the Sure Signal confirming a connection between the device and the internet?

In the meantime, I've performed a re-sync, so if you can do a factory reset then wait an hour or so whilst it reconfigures, you may find this clears the issue.

--------------------------------

iaingibson7 - We don't actually carry the instructions for the various routers on the market. If you can advise exactly what you're unable to do, though, if anyone has experience with how to do it they'll be able to sort this for you. You can also check out the manufacturer's website for their manuals or guidance.

Once we know everything is set up correctly, if the issues persist we'll be happy to jump in.

Once again, I've done a re-sync for you, so please try a factory reset for me and see if that helps.

---------------------------------

SJWS - My first thought was that the box was disabled after the period out of service, but it's still active.

The traceroute results do show hops which look a little longer than ideal, but they should be OK and the speed test is fine. Can you confirm the Ethernet lights are on at the back of the box for me?

I've also tried a re-sync, so please can you try a factory reset for me?

---------------------------------

whm - With this affecting two boxes, the common connection seems the most likely cause of the issue. Can you confirm that the Ethernet lights are showing on the back of the Sure Signals for me? If not, then the change of connection may just have gummed up the works a little, but we'll be happy to help with that.

Can you confirm this new IP address for me so we can check that it is not being blocked?

You may also need to reboot both the router and Sure Signal together to clear both ends of the old connection. Please can you switch both off together, then restart the router, let that reboot fully and the restart the Sure Signal.

---------------------------------

flipper68 - I can see that Simon has done a re-sync for you today, but no sign of a connection yet this afternoon. Given that you may not have been at home to try yet, can you advise if this has helped for you? Once again, you may need a factory reset.

If you are still having issues, please follow the instructions below to confirm the following for me:

 - Your IP address

 - A traceroute

 - A speed test

---------------------------------

billysielu - Yours was also rebooted yesterday. Did you perform a factory reset afterwards? If not, then can you try one now.

Also, can you paste the results of the traceroute and speed test for me, as well as the IP so that we can confirm there are no issues with any of these?

---------------------------------

DanHoll - Looking at your Sure Signal, I can see that you appear to have tried adding the "owner" number, which you don't need to do as it's included automatically.

As it was working before, did anything change about the time this stopped working? Are the Ethernet lights on the back of the Sure Signal still lit?

I've done a re-sync for you, so can you perform a hard reset for me and let the box cycle for you until the lights settle down.

---------------------------------

ackford1977 - Can you confirm the serial number of the Sure Signal for me so we can take a look for you?

Also, can you check the Ethernet lights to confirm an internet connection, and follow the instructions at the foot of the post to provide the following:

 - traceroute

 - Speed test

 - IP address

---------------------------------

david1110 - Can you confirm that your Ethernet lights are lit for me on the Sure Signal, just to confirm it's connecting to the router?

As before, there are a few higher scores on the traceroute but nothing excessive, and the speed test seems to be fine.

Finally for now, given the router change, can I get you to reconfirm the email address for me to be sure we're checking the right one?

---------------------------------

And now, as promised, the instructions for the various checks:

Confirm your IP address

Perform a speed test

Factory reset of the sure signal

  • Hold down the reset button until all the lights show (about 30 seconds)
  • Keeping the reset button held down, remove then re-insert the power lead.
  • Once all lights display release the reset button.
  • The Sure Signal will come online in around 1 hour.

Perform a traceroute:

  • On a PC, Click on Start  and select Run
  • Type CMD into the Run box and press enter/click ok
  • A black box will appear.
  • In this box type tracert 212.183.133.177    press Enter
  • Paste the output of this command into your reply.

Dave I'm getting this error in my router's intrusion detection log - it thinks you're trying to hack me!

Re: New Sure Signal - Steady Power Light Only

Lost yet another days work to ###### about with SS again today. It really is the most user unfriendly and unreliable product i have ever come across. If I could get out of my contract (which I took out on the basis of this piece of crap living up to its advertising) I would do so in a flash.

Have followed all the troubleshooting steps, reset, assigned IP, port opening etc etc etc etc etc etc so please spare me any more IT gimpwork or ISP buckpassing. Have wasted weeks on it all before, and I and many others were previously told on this forum that you weren't prepared to explain what eventually made it work when it was clearly a VF issue.

Spoke to phone tech support (level 2, arf) today, honestly, like showing a dog a card trick. I was told I couldn't log into the forum to report the issue because there was a problem with my browser, despite not being able to log in via different browsers on different machines. Then it was a problem with both browsers and machines apparently, or really just any system that wasn't what this particular IT maestro had in front of him.

So have had to delete account, re-register and start at the very beginning again just to be able to post this. What fun. Apparently he reset the sure signal, but on the expertise demonstrated, I wouldn't take that as a given.

So here's all the smokescreen, I mean, required info, please let me know what the problem is your end asap.

Re: New Sure Signal - Steady Power Light Only

Hard reset, its been 8 hours, no change - still red light only. IP 86.169.123.217.

Frustrating to say the least, so many people with the same issues, wonder what's going on...

Re: New Sure Signal - Steady Power Light Only

Hi there

Same problem for me - day five now. After a reset, the system and phone lights flash for five minutes or so, then go out, leaving the red power light. This repeats a few times then stops, leaving the power light.

Serial: 40120559295
Internal IP set to 192.168.0.2
Port forwarding set to 192.168.0.2 for ports 8(TCP/IP), 50(TCP/IP), 123(UDP), 500(UDP), 4500(UDP)
External IP: 82.44.2.89
ISP: Virgin Media
Router: Netgear VMDG280
Speedtest: download 9.1Mb/s; upload 0.9Mb/s
Factory reset done several times in the last four days
Resync by Vodafone yesterday evening
Both yellow and green lights on the back of the unit are lit

Traceroute results:

Re: Sure Signal - Power Light only - Virgin Media & NetGear

Dave

Many thanks, I reset the SS last night, no change till this morning. To confirm the ethernet lights on the back of the SS were and are showing.
