Ok so it started working this morning, after de-registering and re-registering again.
Weird, but happy. No action required.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for your post, please see your responses below;
@ JayBM, it does look like there was a problem with latency on your broadband line however, as this is now resolved you don’t need to worry.
I would say keep an eye on this and let us know if you have any other issues.
@ bluemoon12, my apologies for not replying to you sooner, I have taken a look at the PM that you have sent to me and all of the traceroute speed test and IP address are all fine.
I can see that the unit has registered however there has been no connection to the server as of yet which would normally indicate a possible port or firewall issue.
Can you look at the inbound firewall to see if you are able to specify a rule set to allow inbound connections to the Sure Signal?
@ maxlyne87, I can see that there hasn’t been a connection made since 20/05/12 however so we can identify what is happening here please can you confirm the following details for me;
The results of a speed test
The results of a ping test
The results of a traceroute
Your external IP address (to see if your ISP has changed this)
Are all ports open?
Is the MTU set to 1500?
Are there any firewalls blocking the Sure Signal?
VSS Traceroute command
On a PC:
Click on Start and select Run
Type CMD into the Run box and press enter/click ok
A black box will appear.
In this box type tracert 212.183.133.177 press Enter
Paste the output of this command into your reply.

Hi There,
I am able to set inbound firewall settings, and have previously tried this per the forum notes.
Can you confirm exactly which rules I need to apply?

VSS Steady Power Light and Regular Flashing Ethernet Link Light

I have had about 5 months steady VSS service with occasional modem and /or VSS resets following a power cut and a problem at our local land line exchange. However, I now have a steady power light and the Ethernet link light on the back flashes at a steady rate synchronously with the corresponding port light on the modem router. I have followed the advice given on http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Vodafone-Sure-Signa
The modem cannot detect the VSS (and UPnP remains enabled)
A simple modem reboot does not solve the issue
VSS power disconnection and reconnection (which has worked after power cuts) does not solve the issue.
The hard reset procedure given in the link above does not result in any response from the front panel System and Phone lights at all.
Disconnection and reconnection of the power lead in the hard reboot procedure or without pressing the reboot button does not result in the System and Phone lights illuminating at all. The lamp conditions are unchanged and remain at: steady power and flashing Ethernet.
Can you help please?

Hi there guys,
@ bluemoon12 - All the rules that need to be applied are in the very first post in this thread ![]()
@ maxlyne87 - I'm afraid you'll need to speak with your ISP. There is lots of latency on your line and the upload speed is half of what is required to successfully mange to make one call. If you couple that with the bandwidth being shared between other devices that are connected to your router and it is inevitable that you will see problems.
The steady power light is being seen by you because the VPN (Virtual Private Network) isn't able to remain open due to the huge response times.
@ Ned - Please could you let me know your VSS serial number?
Cheers,
Lee

Hi there KateT6,
Many thanks for your post.
Your traceroute and speeds look absolutely fine to me.
I can see it has worked in the past so I'm pretty sure it's not your IP address on the blacklist, though I'd like it if you could provide me with that anyway, just to be sure - External IP
I've also forced a resync of your device. Please factory reset using the process below and let me know how you get on.
VSS Factory Reset
- Hold the reset button till all the lights come on or flash (about 30 seconds)
- Keeping the rest button held, remove and re-insert the power lead
- Once all the lights come on or flash, release the reset button
- The VSS should come online within the hour
Cheers,
Lee

MTU is set at 1492 and cam't be changed to a higher value (1500) for some reason - BT don't seem to know why but say it shouldn't make a difference.
However, 10 minutes ago - without any further changes - I did a reset on the VFSS and it has started to work again - no idea why, but just hope it contnues to do so.

After having problems SOLVED for my VSS working with my Linksys router, my Router died.
I replaced this with a Netgear DGND3700.......... And yes, I now have the same problem that others seem to be having with this Netgear router.
I've tried all the forum's fix's but still nothing is working.
On the first page of this post there is a list of IP addresses to forward, but I can't find a way of associating (Forwarding) these in my router.
The Port Forward link doesn't have my model.
Can anyone help?

Hi Dingus
Thank you for your post and I am sad to see you are experiencing difficulties since changing your equipment.
Unfortunately we do not support routers as there are so many however we have seen this previously here and the query was resolved.
Let me know how you get on.
Many Thanks

My sure signal has come back -
The issue appears to be firewall related.
To explain - my firewall is open for TCP/UDP on all recommended ports - yet I found there were still rejections in the syslog.
No particular ports - the traffic being blocked was PR UDP. PR = Packet Repeat ??? To get the Sure Signal working - I just had to open the firewall right up.
Can we get the endpoint addresses or relevant subnet so I can narrow down access to Vodafone only infrastructure?
I'm not sure why this has become an issue as I'm sure this configuration previously worked.

Hi pryan54
Thank you for your post.
I can see that the Sure Signal has not connected since the start of the year, this will then be removed and become dormant from the servers so I have resynchronised this for you, please reset the device and let me know how you get on.
Hi dannyboy1121
I am so pleased to see that this has now been resolved, if you experience any further difficulties please do not hesitate to post.
Hi Ned
Thank you for your post, this too has not connected for a number of weeks so I have resynchronised this.
Please reset your device and let me know how you get on.
Many Thanks

I received my VSS on Monday and set it up, waited 24 hours (over 2 days now), but it is not working. I have the steady power light and no other lights problem.
I've followed all of the suggestions and set up port forwarding etc but still no joy. My serial no. is 40121450916. My router is a D-Link DIR-645.
Thanks
Mark
