Hi Guys,
@ Callmechar, to be honest we can’t give any particular instructions for your router as we don’t have then however; the details should be very similar to those for most Netgear routers.
When you log into the router page you will need to select port forwarding from the left hand side where you can then add the ports to be forwarded.
In here you can then add the ports and IP addresses as mentioned on the link I gave in my last post.
If you have any trouble I’m sure one of our forum members will be able to advise you on this.
@ Starstruck, looking at the details that you have provided everything looks fine apart from one bit of the traceroute where the response time was over the 200ms threshold.
If you do another traceroute do you get the same delay on hop 12?
12 226 ms 60 ms 60 ms 92.79.213.133
@ barbariq, thanks for the update, please keep me posted with how you get on and I will offer any assistance I can.
@ sioux, please can you let us know your serial number so that we can check the registration for you.
James

I have downloaded a utility called WinMTR (Windows My Trace Route) that runs multiple traces and measures packet loss etc. Here is the results from 101 traces.
As you can see there is 0% packet loss and the average ping times are well under the 200ms requirement, there is one ping that had a 201ms time but thats nothing unusual in a network.
Thanks

Hi Starstruck
Thank you for your posts and the additional information.![]()
I have checked and can see that it has still not connected for some time and all appears fine from your results, we have been made aware there was an issue yesterday which has now been resolved.
I have resynchronised your device, please can you let me know if this has amended your device.
Hi Dingus
Thank you for your serial number, I have checked at our end and all appears present and correct, are you still experiencing these drops?
As mentioned above there was an issue which has now been resolved, please can you perform a factory reset and let me know if you are still experiencing these drops.
If this does occur please can you try the device on another connection with another ISP, this way will help us identify if this is a device fault.
Many Thanks

Hi Guys,
I'm having problems with my SureSignal. Got it about 2 months ago and it worked for a couple of days only. Since then all I get is a steady power light.
Details that might help the troubleshooting:
- ISP: BT
- Modem: Billion BiPAC 7800, connected to a D-Link DGS-1210-16 switch
What I've tried so far:
- hard reset
- different network cable
- connected the suresignal straight to the modem (rather than the switch)
- fix port speed to 100M/FD (rather than autonegotiate)
The box doesn't seem to transmit any data on the network even though both link and activity (green and orange) lights are on.
This has been confirmed by monitoring the stats on the switchport that the suresignal is connected to.
DHCP server is running on my linux fileserver and I can see no DHCP request from the MAC address of the suresignal box.
Anything else I could check? To me it looks like it's proper broken...
Cheers,
Zoltan

My new SS2, s/n 40113157800 will not configure. It is shown as registered on my Vodafone account and I've received the usual confirmatory email from Vodafone.
The power light remains on, but the System & Phone lights go out after flashing for 10 minutes or so. As the SS2 has been online for over24hours with no change I've disconnected it (to save power). I've tried connecting it to the router (a Netgear WNDR3700) and also directly to my ADSL modem (a Draytek Vigor 120), but nothing changes. I've also performed several resets, all to no avail. This product seems to be more 'plug and pray' than 'plug and play'. Does anybody have a solution?

Hi zmarkella
I’d like to help to resolve this VSS (Vodafone Sure Signal) issue for you, but to do this I will need to take some further information from you.
Can you post the following results to this thread?
Traceroute.
- On a PC / Laptop :
- Click on Start and select Run
- Type CMD into the Run box and press enter/click ok
- A black box will appear.
- In this box type tracert 212.183.133.177 press Enter
- Paste the output of this command into your reply.
And finally, your VSS serial number.
Hi Bickbadger
I can see that this has still not connected so I have resynchronised your device to try and jumpstart this for you, please can you perform a factory reset and let me know how you get on.
If you are still experiencing difficulties please can you post the information from the details above.
Hi Starstruck
Thank you for your post.
Please keep me updated.
Many Thanks

Hi zmarkella,
Thanks for the update here.
Looking at the traceroute, speed test and ping test everything is fine without any issues what sop ever.
Looking over your last posts I would also try to plug the sure signal into the switch as apposed to the router?
The only reason for this is that some BT routers have a switch to convert the protocol from PPPoE to PPPoA which the Sure Signal uses.
Additionally, please can you also confirm what ports you have forwarded within the router setup as per the instructions here.
@ starstruck, thanks for the updated traceroute and the additional reset, from what I can see all of the requirements are there for you to use the service.
Looking at the registration everything looks OK apart from the fact that no connection has been made with the server since 12/07/12.
This would normally be a port blocking issue however in addition to this, to rule out an equipment fault are you able to try the Sure Signal on a different internet connection with a different ISP?
@ mpattman, I can see that your traceroute and IP address are both fine without any issues.
However there hasn’t been a connection on your registration since 11/04/2012.
Also I can see that your ping and speed tests are also OK which leads me to believe that either there is a firewall stopping the connection, the MTU is not set to 1500 on the router admin page or the unit could be faulty.
Please can you try to set the MTU and also verify that all the relevant ports and firewalls are set up correctly.
If you are still having issues with this please try the Sure Signal on a different connection and let me know how you get on.
James

Hi, this is my first VSS so I dont know what the previous connection back then was.
Serial Number 40120955006
Status active
Date of registration 20/07/2012 22:29:30
My connection is a partial llu using talktalk tails, in the isp section of my router i can set the mtu to a maximum of 1492 but curently set to 1400 as nothing else seams to work for general traffic. i am seeing nat seesions being created to dns and ports 500, 4500 and sometimes 123 to one or more of the vodafone ips listed in this thread. On my router i have allowed all traffic to pass in an out over the firewall with port forwarding configured for ports 50, 4500, 500, 123, 8 and 1723 (for now all ports have both tcp and udp rules). is it possible that my public ip (77.107.181.147) needs to be added to the whitelist?
thanks,
Matt

Hello again.
Did the factory reset and monitored my VSS. Just as before it was fine for a while the dropped offline. Did a reboot as before and it started to work again, but I'm sure it'll drop off again soon.

I have spoken to Draytek (my router manufacturer) and they have confirmed the configuration of my router, I have spoken to my ISP and they see no reason why it shouldnt work and suggested that it was very likely that my ip address (77.107.181.147) would need to be added to your whitelist, please can you check this and what test can i carry out 77.107.181.147) would need to be added to your whitelist, please can you check this and what test can i carry out to make sure that your firewall or system will allow packets through? Is there anyone i can talk to in getting my suresignal online, this device is the main reason why my wife and I setup contracts with you and if we cannot get this working in the next day or two (after being told that it was just a case of plugging it in), then we will both have to consider cancelling them.

James,
I've tried switching the VSS box on after your post and voila - it works!
OK, to be correct: it worked. Now it doesn't.
It was connected to the same switchport as before. I haven't changed a single thing. It was just off for about a month.
It was working fine until last night, when it decided to drop the connection and now all I get is a steady power light. Tried rebooting it this morning, but no luck.
It doesn't even ask for an IP address! I can see DHCP activity (every 3 or so hours) until last 22:18 night. From there onwards it's nothing.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Zoltan

Hi mpattman
Thanks for your updates. I've checked your IP address and it is already on the whitelist. I'm a little concerned as to why your Sure Signal shows as last registered on the network in April yet it appears that you've only just received the device. So that we can investigate this further I've sent a private message with details of how to contact us.
You can find your PM inbox here. If you can't access this link, please ensure that the box next to "Turn on private messages" is ticked on this page, and let us know if you need any further assistance.
Hi deluxe99
Thanks for your reply. Your IP address isn't on our whitelist so I've requested this be added. This can take up to 24 hours and should resolve your connection issue. Please reset your device in 24 hours and if you're still haveing difficulty please let us know.
Hi Dingus
Thanks for your reply and letting us know that for now it appears to be up and running. If you continue to get issues then please post back to us.
Thanks
Simon
