Ok, after two weeks I'm finally getting round to trying to find out what is wrong with the expensive piece of plastic on my shelf
worked fine for the first few weeks then just stopped, tried rebooting my router etc, no joy, dashboard says it's active, what else am I meant to do? I really do not want to have to phone a call centre, I couldn't face it! What other info do I need to provide?

Hi Do you have any news for me please. I still cannot get the replacement SS working, in spite of checking everything and having tried resetting since the resynch that you carried out.
It is getting very difficult to work from home with so little signal
Thanks

I've now been in touch with Belkin who have confirmed that I now have the correct ports open for the VSS. I've done a reset on the Sure Signal, rebooted the router again and deregistered/reregistered.
Still only the power light on.
Where do I go from here Vodafone?????

Hi aliflower7
Welcome to the eForum!
Looking at your serial number, I can see that your VSS hasn’t contacted the Vodafone VPN server since the 05/07/2011 I've resync'ed your Sure Signal device and would ask for you to try a factory reset
To factory reset the Sure Signal box:
- Hold down the reset button until all the lights show (about 30 seconds) keeping the reset button held down.
- Remove then re-insert the power lead.
- Once all lights display release the reset button. The Sure Signal will come online in around 1 hour.
If this still isn’t working then I would suspect a connectivity issues between your router and Vodafone VPN server, could you reply back after performing the following:
- On a PC :
- Click on Start and select Run
- Type CMD into the Run box and press enter/click ok
- A black box will appear.
- In this box type tracert 212.183.133.177 press Enter
- Paste the output of this command into your reply along with a copy of the results from running a speed test
Thanks
Hi AmareArgentum
If the replacement Sure Signal hasn’t fixed the issue then we would suspect that potentially there is an issue with your internal network configuration or line that is causing this. I haven’t seen an email from you letting us know that your still having a problem. Did you reply to Lee at all?
Thanks
Hi zozo4
Could you do the same as aliflower7, I've resynched your box for you.
Thanks

Hi Ben
I responded to Trev via email and have since spoken to Lee on the phone. Once I received the replacement SS I responded via this thread as agreed with Lee. Lee has done a resynch and I have checked all the router settings, network etc. I have tried resetting the SS several times and seem to be getting nowhere. Please can you help to get this resolved.

Hi AmareArgentum
Hmm! so you have had an exchange box and your still having the same issues? We can rule out the Sure Signal box as the cause of your connection issues. We would now need to look further into this. If you can reply back to the last email you received form us I can pull up your previous details and check through to make sure nothing has been missed. 9/10 if a replacement box doesn’t resolve the issue then it’s potentially the line or the internal network configuration that’s causing this issue.
Thanks
Hi Aliflower7
Your Report does indicate there are line issues with the time outs you have had, I would suggest speaking to your ISP about the latency on the line.
Thanks
Hi ZoZo4
Speed and trace route report looks good here, I would suggest making sure your internal network configuration is correct. Looking at the backend system I can’t see where your Sure Signal box has ever connected to the VPN server. This would indicate either the internal network isn’t configured correctly or that the box is faulty, if you can check your internal network to make sure all ports are open correctly etc, let me know and I will then progress this to the next step for you.
Thanks

I have done what you have said in a previous post. The router is a Linksys WAG54G.

Hi Ben,
I have rechecked the ports and also been back in touch with Belkin and they have assured me that my configuration of the router means that the ports are open to the VSS.
I have also reset both VSS and router and still it ends up with just the power light on. I would appreciate it if you could progress my problem to the next step.
Thanks

I have read your guide with interest as I have a Vodafone sure signal that powers up, runs through the flashing light stage, then sits there with only the red power light on. I have spent some considerable time attempting to get this to work, with no real progress, but a great deal of frustration. I have largely tried your suggestions but have got a little lost. I have checked all the obvious (internet, leads etc) Please can you give me some steer (in plain English not IT speak) on how to get this to work, before i pull all my hair out.
My router details are:
Belkin ADSL modem with high speed G router. | |
Runtime Code version | F5D7633-4Av1_UK_1.00.000 |
Boot Code Version | 1.0.37-5.15 |
Hardware Version | V1.0J3 |
ADSL Modem Code Version | A2pB015c6 |
Serial Num | 168-168-16888 |
ISP is Talk Talk
Sure Signal model 9361 home cell Serial number 40112212903
The belkin is set to automatically assigns IP addresses and the DHCP service is on. I have enabled the uPnP. However, I do not see the sure signal box listed under the DHCP clients, so can only assume that is the first problem.

Good afternoon all,
@ pmo - Thanks for performing the traceroute. I can see at hop 7 the response time is 3 to 4 times the maximum response time that will allow the Sure Signal to operate fully.
I'm afraid we cannot help with this and you'll need to speak with your ISP. The maximum response time is 200ms.
@ zozo4 - I've just sent an email to your registered eForum address. Please reply with the requested details and we'll be in touch.
@ MD - Thanks for your post.
Would it be possible that you could also perform a traceroute test?
- On a PC :
- Click on Start and select Run
- Type CMD into the Run box and press enter/click ok
- A black box will appear.
- In this box type tracert 212.183.133.177 press Enter
- Paste the output of this command into your reply along with a copy of the results from running a speed test.
I've had a look at your serial number (thanks for supplying it) and can see everything looks fine at our end.
Let me know how you get on.
Kindest regards to all,
Lee

Hi MD,
Looking at your details, I suspect that the router isn’t connecting to the Vodafone VPN due to the internal network configuration of the router.
You may need to assign a static IP address for your sure Signal if DHCP isn’t finding the device. Have you checked the Ethernet cable that connects the Sure Signal to the router?
I can see you mentioned that you’re using a Belkin router, Have you seen this guide? It shows a pictorial step by step on how to set up your router with the ports that need to be open. I noticed that port 8 was missing from this guide however you will need to open this port.
Please let me know how you get on
Thanks

Hi (posting on behalf of my wife's vodafone account)
Please help.
I have a new version SureSignal:
- Serial Number 40112439555
- Status: active
- Date of registration 19/07/2011 12:32:28
It is unable to connect and sits with the single red light on.
I have a 3Com 3CRWDR101A-75 router with uPnP enabled.
I then tried opening the ports which was unsuccessful (with factory reset).
I then tried placing the SureSignal in the DMZ which was unsuccessful (with factory reset).
I am with Vivaciti broadband (the fastest possible connection available on my exchange):

Hi Charlesr
Looking at your details, I can’t see anything wrong here. What is your external IP address?
I've checked Vivaciti broadband, and they appear to route data through the USA which may be causing this issue. If you can confirm your external IP range, I can look to get this unblocked for you.
I have resync’d your Sure Signal box to see if this is also causing the issue, if you can perform a factory reset and let me know how this goes.
To factory reset your Sure Signal box:
- Hold down the reset button until all the lights show (about 30 seconds) keeping the reset button held down.
- Remove then re-insert the power lead.
- Once all lights display release the reset button. The Sure Signal will come online in around 1 hour.
Thanks

Hi, we've had a SureSignal running quite happily since April. About 2 weeks ago it stopped working, could this be related to recent upgrades? I would be grateful of any helkp to get this resolved.
Currently I only have a steady power light on, it is one of the newer SureSignal boxes, serial: 40110415649
I have worked through all your troubleshooting steps and cannot find a problem from this end. The Port Forwarding on our Netgear DG834 was working and the networking setup has not changed. Our ISP, IDNetworks has not changed. The only thing that seems may have changed it the planned upgrades.
Thanks for any help,
Eike
