Good afternoon HamiltonKerr,
Many thanks for your post and a very warm welcome to the eForum.
I've performed a resync of your Sure Signal unit. Please can you do a factory reset and if there's no change perform a traceroute test?
Factory Reset
- Hold down the reset button until all the lights show (about 30 seconds) keeping the reset button held down
- Remove then re-insert the power lead
- Once all the lights display, release the reset button
- The Sure Signal will come online in around one hour
Traceroute
- On a PC
- Click on Start and select Run
- Type CMD into the Run box and press Enter or click OK
- A black box will appear
- In this box, type 'tracert 212.183.133.177' and press Enter
- Paste the output of this command into your reply along with the results of a speedtest
Kindest regards,
Lee

Hi Mr Moderator,
I have now spent a dispropotionate amount of time on this, but with your advise have managed to get the system light to stay on now, but have no signal on my mobile? For reference I have run the tracert again with the following data below:

Just a quick update to say thanks, I now have it working. Had to reboot everything several times, but it seems to now have connected to both the internet and my phone. What a palava, but at least its working now. Many thanks.

Hi charlesr
I've just come back into the office but haven’t had a reply back on this from our support team, so have I have chased this up for you. As soon as I have a response I will post back to you.
Hi MD
Hmm!
So you have your Sure Signal account set up with your number on it, the correct light sequence but your phone still doesn’t show signal? It sounds like the phone may not have latched to the Sure Signal box. At this point a trace route report won’t show very much as this is between the phone and the box.
Have you made sure 3G is switched on and performed a manual roam? What phone are you using?
Thanks

Hi. I have another posting here but as the behaviour of the Sure Signal has changed (see my second note) it now more fits the problem in this thread where it ultimately ends up with only a steady power light on, after 10 minutes.
I can add further info that my download speed (from speedtest) is around 10MB with an uplink speed of 0.8MB, which should be plenty fast enough. The tracert to 212.183.133.177 also successully resolves to the same host as in other posts. I'm not in front of the Sure Signal at the moment but I can post exact results later tonight if required.
I'm beginning to wonder if the unit is faulty. I can try a factory reset tonight but I'm not expecting it to progress any further than it has on previous attempts.
Is it possible for one of the moderators to confirm whether my Sure Signal (40112556366) has ever successfully connected to the vodafone servers through either of the routers I tested with?

Hi Lee
Thanks for the resync. Unfortunately this has failed to resolve the issue. I have tried a factory reset and several reboots but still cannot get the SS to connect. As requested here are the results of the tracert and speed test.

Hi, thanks for the response, this is a site I only visit occaisionally, so it has been a few days, but still no progress with the SureSignal. I carried out a factory reset a few days ago, but still no connection. Here are the traceroute results:

Speedtest is 1MByte upload and 5MB download
The router logs used to show occaisional VPN connections being made, these no longer appear, so I assume the SS box is unable to connect. Nothing has been changed in the network setup on this side, so I am at a bit of a loss. DO you have any further suggestions please?

After waiting over a month for my replacement SS box to turn up, I decided to reconnect the old one today and what do you know? Appears to be working OK.
Needless to say, I'll be back on if it fails again.

Hi there,
Having similar problems to other people, with no significant result!
My new SS (serial number 40112557539) never seems to connect to the Vodafone network - the power light stays a solid red colour.
So far it has been on for approx. 3 days and I've tried various things to fix it.
- Router is a Cisco 1721 on a business ADSL circuit.
- Traceroute gets most of the way to Vodafone (results below).
- I've reduced my NAT config to the bare minimum to make sure the NAT isn't interfering with it and have tried various combinations including allocating a seperate static 1 to 1 NAT for the device.
- Port forwarding is configured to make sure everything is now forwarded to the SS.
- The Access Control List has been removed from the ADSL WAN interface for testing.
- I've rebooted everything several times.
- I've also configured a wireshark session on a spanned port on the Cisco switch that it connects into, and the SS does the following:
- Broadcasts out and gets a valid DHCP address
- Successfully resolves the DNS A record for initial-ipsecrouter.vap.vodafone.co.uk
- ARPS out for the ADSL router
- Attempts to establish an ISAKMP/IKE Phase 1 connection with 212.183.133.177
- At this point, a response is never seen back from the device with IP address 212.183.133.177
My SS is showing as registered in my Business account.
Please let me know what can be tried next.
Thanks
Ian Steele

Hi there HamiltonKerr,
Thanks for the update.
I've had a look at your VSS and can see the last connection to the network was about two weeks ago. The traceroute report looks great.
I've just had a look at your eForum profile and your VSS and managed to access your account from the information there. Unfortunately I only have restricted access to your type of account and therefore can only see the front page of your account. This means I cannot help any further. I was hoping to order you a replacement VSS but I'm afraid you'll need to contact your account manager to process this.
Kindest regards,
Lee

Thanks for your response.
Out of desperation I deleted and then re-registered the ss this afternoon.
I'll wait until after the weekend and report back.
Would you expect to see any packets back at all even if to reject the connection?
Thanks
Ian
