Solution

Sure Signal V3 & BT Infinity

marc2629

Thought I'd share how I got my Sure Signal working with infinity....

  • First step is to identify your Sure Signal on your network, this can be done by matching the MAC address on the back of the unit to one of the MAC address' listed in your network (I renamed it sure signal for future reference)
  • I then set up the game/application rule under port forwarding and followed the steps to open ports 8, 50, 123, 500, 4500 and 1723. I set them to 'any' where I had the choice of UDP/TCP.
  • I then applied this game/application rule to the sure signal
  • I also turned on  'port clamping' which can be found under broadband settings, then VPN.
  • I also switched on DMZ under port forwarding (although I do not know if this is 100% necessary, it was a case of try everything :smileywink:)
  • I then called Vodafone customer services and asked them to re-sync the device, which they said would take between 5 mins to an hour.
  • Sometime later I checked back and all the correct lights were illuminated and not flashing.

I hope this helps others a bit, for reference I think I have a homehub3 and that's with BT infinity.

Hi marc2629,

Thank you very much for posting this! I know that compatibility between the two has been a bit of an issue for those using Homehub 3. Does this work for the same router or is yours a diffferent one? :Smiling:

Cheers, Ben

I think it's a homehub 3 and I'm not using a different router than the one supplied.

Hi marc2629,

That's great! Thanks for posting it for everyone to see! :smileyhappy:

If you do find out it's not a Homehub 3, let us know.

Dave

I have had a Sure Signal since January which seemed to work most of the time on my ADSL internet connection at the time. There were frequent periods when it dropped out but I just put this down to the fact that this was probably because the ADSL connection frequently did, which is why when it became available I upgraded to BT Infinity in June which has proved much more reliable however since the upgrade the Sure Signal has never worked. I've only just got around to trying to sort this out as I've been working away alot since and have come across numerous thread saying that Sure Signal and BT Infinity will not work together over the last 2 years! I would hope that by now Vodafone would have a solution to this since the overwhelming opinion is the fault lies in the Sure Signal not complying with the up to date standards imposed by moden VDSL routers.

Anyway, the set up I now have is a BTHub4-32G3 router connected to a ECI Telecom B-FOCUS V-ZFUb/r Rev B NGA ECI-CPE-MODEMS TYPE 1B and the Sure Signal is an Alcatel-Lucent model 9361 Home Cell p3.0 s/n 40124126216.

I have configured the BTHub4 to forward any protocol for ports 8, 50, 500, 4500 and 1723 to the Sure Signal's MAC address of 0C-4C-39-09-C6-18 which it indicates it has connected to. I also turned on port clamping under broadband/VPN settings, and DMZ under port forwarding and added this MAC address into the DMZ. I have done both soft and hard restarts of the router, hard power cycled the Sure Signal but still it sits there with the power light flashing and  the service light solid orange.

As I understand it this means the Sure Signal is unable to connect to the Vodafone servers. Any ideas how I can get this resolved as I am anticipating working from home again soon.

Hi mkc,

Thanks for letting us know what you’ve tried.

The lights you’re seeing show that your Sure Signal has failed to reach our network.

Can you check to make sure all the cable connections are solid?

Do you have the option of trying a different Ethernet cable to see if this helps?

If neither suggestion works, we’ll need some more information from you.

Can you provide the following please:-

Your speed test results from here.
Your ping test results from here.
Your external IP address from here.
The results of a traceroute.

VSS Traceroute command

On a PC:

Click on Start and select Run
Type CMD into the Run box and press enter/click ok
A black box will appear.
In this box type tracert 212.183.133.177 press Enter
Paste the output of this command into your reply.

Let me know how you go on

Thanks,

Andrew

Have already tried different cables, and moving away from the Wifi router.

Hi mkc,

Everything is fine with your traceroute, speed test and ping test.

Your IP address is on our whitelist so no problems there either.

The next thing to try, if possible, would be your Sure Signal on a different internet connection, that of a friend or family member.

If it works there, it would indicate that there’s something in your current set up that’s preventing the unit from keeping an open connection to our servers.

It’s also possible that you may be affected by the issue mentioned here.

Cheers,

Andrew

I'm guessing there's a problem getting through to the servers

Hi @tomalbanese

If you've swapped routers, please de-register your Sure Signal, before disabling Smart Setup on your router.

If you're unsure how to remove this feature, your ISP can help.

After you've done that, register the Sure Signal again and hold the reset button for 20 - 30 seconds.

The Sure Signal will then reconnect after an hour or so. :Smiling:

Cheers,

Ben
