Solution

Sure Signal and WiFi problem

Hi I have a BSR FEMTOSure Signal, Serial number 21230494961. The ethernet port is showing steady green and the lights on the front are power is green; @ is green; phone symbol is 'off' and finally, the 'tick' is green. Until 6 mths ago it was working fine, then I installed an ethernet switch and four wireless access points. The SureSignal is connected to a new (2013) BT HomeHub 3.0 Type B, the Home Hub is connected to the Ethernet Switch and the E/Switch via ethernet cables to the four Wireless access Points. I have now got good WiFi in the locations I wanted but appear to have lost the SureSignal. We do have some (1 to 2 bars) reception outside without SureSignal and did have good reception in our home with SureSignal. We were hoping that the new setup would give good WiFi and SureSignal both inside and out, extending the range of the SureSignal through the WiFi Access Points. It would appear that we have lost all SureSignal and are just left with the poor outside 1/2 bars. Any ideas how I may get the SureSignal working properly again and or get it to work effectively within the vicinity of the suresignal itself and the wireless access points? Thank you.

Hi K1Ininian,

As per James message, the Sure Signal won't work with the setup you currently have.

You do need to have the Sure Signal connected to the router via an Ethernet cable.

Thanks,

Kay

Hi Kay,

The Sure Signal was and is connected to the router (a new (2013) BT HomeHub 3.0 Type B). The router is also connected to the ethernet switch. The set up is as it was before the installation of the WiFi. I suspect that the SureSignal itself is faulty.

Best regards, Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for replying. I'm not sure if there's been some confusion with your messages. Are you saying you were able to use the Sure Signal unit before via Wi-Fi? As it shows this is the Ethernet version only with it being an older model.

Any clarification would be great. :Smiling:

Cheers, Ben

Hi Ben,

I have an old version of the SureSignal; would the new version work on my set up and give a signal at each of the Wireless Access Points via the connecting ethernet cables and WiFi?

best regards, Andrew

Hi Andrew,

As long as the overall set up doesn’t change (apart from the replacement Sure Signal) then it should continue working as it does now.

Thanks

Andrew

Hi K1lninian,

As the Sure Signal won’t connect through Wi-Fi any change in Wi-Fi setup won’t change the range of the Sure Signal, as this need to be connected to the router by an Ethernet cable and the signal is generated from the actual box, not your Wi-fi.
