Sure Signal has reverted to old location

nisbeam
4: Newbie

Hi can you help please - I see a similar post http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Vodafone-Sure-Signal/My-Location-Issues/m-p/1232064#M28255  I have updated my postcode a few weeks ago, and my Sure Signal was working fine and all 3 mobiles showing correct location.  True my broadband is sometime borderline but Sure Signal comes back if it has reset.  But now after about 4 week working fine it is showing the old location on all 3 mobiles.  I have reloaded location on one of the phones - no difference.  I have reset the Sure Signal to factory setting more than once.  Each time it comes back and works perfectly except shows my previous location not my new one.  It did work fine for a few weeks !!    SureSignal.jpgPlease see picture for details of serial no. etc.  Thank you.

Hi nisbeam,

Those details all look fine.

The location reported by the phone is based on the sites and Wi-Fi hotspots it connects with. Cellsites transmit a cell ID which is used to pinpoint location, but the Sure Signal does not. This means that it picks up on where the Sure Signal connects with the network.

It does mean that location services aren't as accurate, but in most cases it's still quite local. I don't know how far the difference between the two postcodes is, though.

As you said this had changed I've resynched the Sure Signal for you, so can you give it a fresh reset for me?

For Sure Signal version 1 or 2:

  • Hold down the reset button until all the lights show (about 30 seconds)
  • Keeping the reset button held down, remove then re-insert the power lead.
  • Once all lights display release the reset button.
  • The Sure Signal will come online in around 1 hour.

For Sure Signal version 3:

  • Locate the button on the base of the box next to the Ethernet ports.
  • Press and hold the button for approximately 30 seconds.
  • Once the lights come back on, release the button.
  • The Sure Signal will come online in around 1 hour.

Dave

Dave,  it worked immediately.  Nevetheless I reset my v3 box as you suggested - and all worked fine until !!!

At about 20:00 - noticed the 2 phones had all changed back to Marlborough again 😞

Strangely when reverting it seems to co-incide with me using my mobile (removed for security) away from that address for Internet Tethering (the other 2 phones are still at the home address) - cant see how this could be linked it may be co-incidence.  Also the other 2 phone on my account were of course also used at the old address.  But as I said my new postcode was accepted and was working, Marlborough was our old address but the new postcode was accepted and it worked fine for a few weeks.  Thanks.

Hi nisbeam

I have manually updated the Post Code for you. Can you give it another factory re set and let me know how you get on?

Thanks

Sukhi

Reset as requested.  Location shows as Marlborough (previous address) and not PL 15 8RY. 😞

I have just checked my account online and you have set my Sure Signal to my old post code SN8 3SE - this would display Marlborough.  My new post code is PL15 8RY.  Do you want to change this or shall I do it ?  Thank you.

Hi nisbeam

Sorry I updated it to the Post Code in your forum settings. I have changed to the correct one now. Can you try another re set?

Thanks
