Solution

Sure Signal latest version won't register and operate

melager
2: Seeker
2: Seeker

I have gathered the info requested for the following light conditions-

Power - Red - light flashing

Internet light - Not on after flashing slowly for approx 30 seconds after power up

System and User lights - Steady Orange

If you look at my Vodafone Support history you will see that this has been going on for many months and I am now in possession of 2 sure signal devices, neither of which work and are both displaying the same light sequence as described.

I realise that possibly my solution is buried in the the threads already posted, but quite frankly, I don't have the time or technical nohow to spend any more time on this. I am at the point of throwing the lot in the bin and forgetting I havd ever seen Sure Signal.

Not sure that the traceroute had finished as it semed to just keep running. I think this was all requested to narrow the search.

Can you shed any SIMPLE light on my next move. I'm in your hands. Kind regards, Mel Ager

Hi melager,

The upload speed is right at the minimum needed for the Sure Signal to work. If If anything caused it to drop it would explain the loss of service. You'd need to speak with your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to see if they can increase that.

So I can check for any other reasons, can you post the serial number of one or both the Sure Signals for me?

Dave

Thanks for your reply. I will certainly query the UL speed with Talk Talk and see what they can do about it. They have recently 'tinkered' with my Broadband speed and significantly increased the DL speed but not the UL speed.

The Serial no of the registered Sure Signal is ;  40130415108

I have in fact resent my message with revisions this morning. I haven't checked that it has been posted. This has all the device info in it now.

Hi Mel,

Thanks for posting. Your IP details and traceroute results all check out fine. However your speeds are borderline to allow the Sure Signal to work properly. Looking at your serial number, I can't see a point it's ever contacted our servers to set up either.

Are you able to speak to your ISP about your speeds at all? Also if you're using an Ethernet cable, can you try a different one so we can rule out an accessory fault?

I look forward to your response. :Smiling:

Cheers, Ben

Hi Mel,

Just a heads up to let you know I've merged your duplicate threads in line with our House Rules. :Smiling:

Let me know what TalkTalk say about the upload speeds.

Cheers, Ben

Ben, thanks for that. I apologise for breaking the rules. As you can no doubt tell from the tone of my post, I am getting a little frustrated with the whole thing, so rules were not high on my agenda when I was pointed at the forum by a Vodafone shop employee as my only realistic means of solving my problem.

As you advised, I have spent the obligatory 30 minutes talking to a foreign lady at Talk Talk's support centre, the result of which it seems that there is a fault somewhere away from my house, presumably on the network. My problem has been transfered to another department so I am waiting for a text message from them, to tell what the next move will be. I have also told them that I have been advised by Vodafone techical group that I need the UL speed increased to allow the Sure Signal a chance of working.

I have laready had a visit from a 'Bright Sparks' engineer a couple of weeks ago, which resulted in a download speed increase from around 1 Mb to an average of around 6 Mb. This was after the engineer told me that my problem was a result of degradation of the BT network infrastructure, so there was nothing that could be done to improve the performance. I guess someone worked some magic????. I wasn't even aware that the ISP's had the ability to 'adjust' the speed of the line.

So, when I have further information I will transmit it to you. Regards, Mel A.

Hi Mel,

Don't sweat it. I'm glad Talk Talk were able to give you an idea as to what had happened. :Smiling:

Feel free to keep us updated in this thread with your progress and don't hesitate to let me know if you need a hand with anything else. :Smiling:

Cheers, Ben

Ben, Open Reach have been and discovered a line fault which they say has now been fixed, giving me a clean connection to the local telephone exchange. The engineer was expecting the DL/UL speeds to improve dramatically with this repair, but, sadly I am still at the same kind of speeds - DL - 5/6 Mps. What speeds should I be at for the Sure Signal to operate?? Before I go back to Talak Talk again, can you tell me what speeds I need for the SS to work. Regards, Mel A.

Hi Mel,

That sounds like a promising start at least.

You'll find the information on the minimum recommended Sure Signal speeds here along with our new help video.

Given the changes they've made, i've given the Sure Signal a resync, so can you try resetting at your end?

  • Unplug the Ethernet cable from the Sure Signal.
  • Locate the button on the base of the box next to the Ethernet ports.
  • Press and hold the button for approximately 30 seconds.
  • Once the lights come back on, release the button.
  • Plug the cable back in.
  • The Sure Signal will come online in around 1 hour.

You might also want to try resetting the router and Sure Signal together to flush anything blocking the connection:

  • Switch off the Sure Signal.
  • Switch off the router.
  • Restart the router only and allow it to fully reboot.
  • Restart the Sure Signal.
