I have performed the reset and now the lights are:
1 solid
2 flashing slowly.
Nothing else happens apart from that. I have gone over the settings for forwarding the ports many times and they are set correctly. Yet this seems to be a problem ![]()
Any other ideas? Spent so much time on this.

I have this exact same problem.
I got my Sure Signal last week and it hasn't worked properly yet.
I have registered my Sure Signal - and received a text notification of being registered. I can see the Sure Signal is registered when I log in to Vodafone's web site.
I have opened the ports on my router as requested - including port 8.
I have rebooted, soft and hard reset my router and my Sure Signal. I have also tried de-registering and registering SureSignal.
I have waited well over 24 hours for the service to be connected - 4 days in fact!
It goes through the cycle;
- Power Light on
- @ flashes
- @ light on
- tick flashes
- tick light on
- 3G signal for a minute or so
then starts again
I have a Thompson TG585n O2 router, with more than enough broadband speed. I have no internet connection problems. I have followed all the instructions on PortForward.com.
I contacted Vodafone four days ago and received an email saying they would contact me back within 24 hours - which they haven't.
My serial number is 21229341835
Please help me before I am forced to return it and demand a refund!

Hi Coley1981
Unfortunately you cannot use ping on a Sure Signal, so the results don't mean anything of any use. ![]()
Have you registered the Sure Signal box, in your Online Account, and received confirmation that it's registered firstly?
Also go through the troubleshooting guide at the head of this thread, and follow the instructions carefully. Once it's set up, it's best to leave switch ed on and untouched for 24 hours, before taking any more action, as it can take this long to activate.
If you've followed the instructions, and waited beyond a 24 hour period, then please post your results and issues here, and i can look further into this for you.
Regards
Trev

Thanks George.
I have done as requested and logged a case but unfortunately the body of the case only allows 900 characters and your template is more than that. I have filled in the basic information and included the result of my pathping (which I do not underatand myself). If you need additional information can you contact me via email and I will provide it.
I look forward to your response ![]()

Hi,
I'm having problems relevant to 2 threads here which may be linked- so apologies for the double post.
Problem 1: VSS starts up OK but after a few hours, light 4 goes out and stays out until I get bored and reset. Tried all the stuff above (speed checker is OK) and pathping results are below. Could anyone help me interpret the result, and if the problem is with Orange broadband, how exactly to phrase my complaint so they'll understand and act?
Problem 2 - when otherwise working, terrible sound quality on the downlink, although speed checker says I'm OK. - linked?
Many thanks again if anyone (VF or other) can help.

Hi fruitcage,
Thanks for posting. Your pathping results show that there doesn't appear to be any issue with your Sure Signal communicating with our servers. If there was you'd see a packet failure somewhere in there.
As such, we'll need to take a closer look at this for you. If you follow the instructions in my original post to contact us then our Sure Signal support team will be in touch as soon as they can.

Hi Fruitcage,
I have had similar problems for months, just moaning about it again now, plus other issues.
I think you will get the standard reply related to your pathping.
The last leg is over 200ms
"200ms - if you go over this you will get issues."
Mine is the same.
All other legs 30-40ms or less & it is ONLY the VF leg that is high.
They blame my broadband which I think at 5-6mbps is quite good but of course pings & NTP latencty are apparently completely unrelated
I could understand it if goes over this 200ms mid way through the path but I can't help think it must be to do with the VF server if it is only here that is slows up.
I was wondering if there is anyone who really understands this stuff could comment on who's fault this last high ping is?
I never had any warning from the numerous VF speed tests. I might have thought twice about moving family & I to VF if I had.
I have done loads of online ping test & always come back good.
Does this anytime of day, e.g. off peak, but is worse peak times.

My SureSignal is now working...!
I performed another full reset and then it took 4 days of flashing lights showing updates were being performed.
So, for those of you with problems... the best thing to do is just to let it do its stuff and wait - as frustrating as that is!!

Hi Dwhitehead10,
From what I can see from your post it does look like the system is still doing an update to connect you to the server which the sure signal runs, I would leave this for another 24 hours ensuring it is left switched on and connected to an active internet connection for this time to allow the registration to complete, if this still does not happen after this time, please let me know.

I have had my Sure Signal for several weeks now, and I thought I had it working after 10 days of waiting, but 3 days on it has now gone back to the original problem...
I have registered my Sure Signal - and received a text notification of being registered. I can see the Sure Signal is registered when I log in to Vodafone's web site.
My serial number is 21229341835
I have opened the ports on my router as requested - including port 8.
I have rebooted, soft and hard reset my router and my Sure Signal.
In the end what got it working was a full factory reset and waiting for 4 days for an update to complete!!!
It has now failed again.
It goes through the cycle;
- Power Light on
- @ flashes
- @ light on
- tick flashes
- tick light on
- 3G signal for a minute or so
then starts again
I have a Thompson TG585n O2 router, with more than enough broadband speed. I have no internet connection problems. I have followed all the instructions on PortForward.com.
I contacted Vodafone on several occasions via email and phone and all I am told is to do a reset and wait. I have even got through to 3rd level support without success. All I am told is "reset the SureSignal".
So, here are my questions... how long does an update take to do? Do I now wait for another 4 days to get a service for 3 days? Do I do another full reset?
Can someone please help me... when it worked it was fantastic - I could use my phone at last, but it is crazy to have to wait 4 days to update the system each time it goes wrong! I am extremely disatisfied and frustrated! Do I perform another full factory reset or not?

Hi swickes
I would suspect a fault with your Sure Signal box.
To be sure if this I would suggest the following:
Please copy the template below, and paste it into our Contact Us form
Please use the subject line "EFT135 Sure Signal SAC Issue" and fill out all questions as completely as possible.
– Your mobile number or account number:
– Your alternative contact number:
– Full Name:
– The second and fourth digit of your security code:
– Address including post code:
– Date of Birth:
- Mobile Number(s) Affected
- Router Make & Model
- Sure Signal Serial Number
- Status of Lights on Sure Signal (Please specify if light is solid of flashing in Description)
- Are the Lights on the Ethernet Port (Where the internet cable plugs into the Sure Signal) on or flashing?
- Is there access to the internet via the modem? (via a pc)
- Have you attempted to use an alternative ethernet (internet) cable?
- Have you tried the Ethernet (internet) cable in another port on the modem?
- Has the router been reset?
- is it a 3G phone?
- Have you attempted to set your handset to Dual Mode (for help with
this go to our Help Centre > select your device > Network > use
phone for both GSM and 3G)
- Were other phones / USB modems active on the Sure Signal at the same time?
Thanks

It does seem to me that a lot of us are suddenly having problems. Can Vodafone please tell us if this is something they are working on. It can't just be a coincidence. And Yes I have tried everything we are meant to do.

Hi,
Thanks to bignose2 for the thoughts. I've tried the pathping at various times of the day, and often get RTTs in the range 200-300ms. Once at about 7 a.m. I got less than 100ms. Sometimes it times out without tracing all the way to the VF server at all.
When the RTT is long, it is the very last hop to the VF server that adds 200ms or so, the previous hops always total just 50-80ms.
I'm still getting lights 1,2,4 much of the time, but often light 4 goes out for a few hours (or until reset). So I'm guessing this is an NTP issue.
Can anyone from VF comment on whether this could be an issue at the end server given the very long RTT added by just the last hop?
Thanks
Geoff
