Sure Signal stops working after smart TV installed

Poptyping

I bought a Sure Signal booster six months ago and it worked well with my TP-Link router until I installed a Sony smart TV, wirelessly to the router.

Since the arrival of the new TV Sure Signal has stopped working, displaying:-

power: flashing red

in-use: off

internet: solid orange

I've tried the obvious fix its like unplugging it and wps button on the router and I've changed my postcode temporarily to try to reboot it but with no effect.

Hi Sukhi

In CMD.exe I get the following error message '212.183.133.177 is not recognized as an internal or external command operable program or batch file. I have run Traceroute from the Network-tools.com website and got this report. I hope it helps.

Hi Poptyping,

When running the traceroute you need to use the command tracert 212.183.133.188

Unfortunately this needs to be run from your connection rather than via a 3rd party site

Done this time.

Hi Poptyping,

Everything is fine with your traceroute, speed test and ping test.

Your IP address is on our whitelist, so no problems there either.

I agree with James that it does sound like a bandwidth issue.

To check whether it’s the TV that’s the culprit, can you remove it from your router?

If the Sure Signal then works, it shows that the TV itself is using enough of the bandwidth to prevent the Sure Signal from keeping a stable connection to our servers.

If this is the case, you’d need to speak with your ISP about increasing your connection speed.

Let me know how you go on.

Thanks,

Andrew

Disconnecting the TV from the router has revived the Sure Signal but my chances of getting my ISP to improve the service are slim so it's not a solution.

Hi Poptyping,

Looking at your speedtest results again your download speed (3.18) should be absolutely fine. The upload speed (0.75) is the one that going to be causing an issue.

To me a smart TV should be a device used primarily to download i.e. streaming on demand content and shouldn't be using any bandwidth at all when you are not using any of it's services.

It has recently been discovered that LG smart TV's are sending a whole lot of information about what you are watching and details of any device connected to the TV out onto the internet without the users knowledge. This could be a reason why your TV is affecting the SureSignal. What make of TV do you have?
