Sure Signal v1 stopped working

jamesrobinson2

Hi there,

My SS v1 has just stopped working, after months of uninterrupted service.  I have followed all of the steps in the troubleshooting thread.  The power light flashes continuously, without ever moving on to the next stage of setup.  I have tried deregistering and re-registering the SS too.

Not sure I understand this, as the firewalls are presumably all at my end, on my Mac or my router, and won't have changed? Please could you clarify?

Mike

Hi Mike,

It can be that your ISP has set up generic firewall features from their end. You'd need to speak to them as they'll be able to clarify what's changed.

We know the Sure Signal isn't faulty and given the failure only occurred after the ISP made changes to the setup of your connection, I'm sure speaking with them will help solve this.

Thanks,

Please see reply from Vodafone below. What next?

"Thank you for your email enquiring about Vodafone sure signal.

I can confirm that we have no firewall settings that can block the signal connection. I can also confirm that we have not made any changes to the recent network settings as well."

Hi mikekillingley and jamesrobinson2

If you’re only seeing the flashing power light, there are two possibilities.

1. There is a port issue, so double check all the ports below are open:

Ports to be opened for forwarding

  • 8 (TCP & UDP)
  • 50 (TCP & UDP)
  • 53  (TCP & UDP)
  • 67 (UDP)
  • 68 (UDP)
  • 123 (UDP)
  • 500 (UDP)
  • 1723 (TCP & UDP)
  • 4500 (UDP)
  • 33434 - 33445 (UDP)

IP addresses to be allowed on the router & firewall

  • 212.183.133.177-179
  • 212.183.133.181-182
  • 212.183.131.128-191

I can see it's registered successfully, so once the above steps have been followed please perform a reset:

  • Unplug the ethernet cable from the Sure Signal
  • Locate the button on the base of the box next to the Ethernet ports
  • Press and hold the button for approximately 30 seconds
  • Once the lights come back on, release the button
  • Plug the cable back in
  • Allow around one hour for the Sure Signal to come back online.

Possibility 2 is that the Sure Signal has left us and will need repairing or replacing.

To double check this, please try again on another connection.

To find out what you need to do in order to get this sorted take a look at our Vodafone Repairs Thread. This can be found here.

Please be aware that if this is out of warranty, the repair will be chargeable.

Problem solved. Interestingly it was not one of your suggested problems, but an intermittently faulty router, but thanks anyway.

Hi Wayne

Following reading one of the other posts on this forum I went to maplins and purchased areplacement power supply for the sure signal v1.

Plugged it in and within 5 minutes it was working fine. 3 days wasted on many other suggestions.

regards

James, it sounds like we've had the exact same problem with a V1 VSS around the same time.  Like you, I have followed the steps to no avail...

Kind regards,

Hi Andy,

I'm at a different location for a couple of days so have re-registered, placed the Sure Signal in a dmz and reset. I can see outbound communication to Vodafone servers on ports 500, 50 etc. - can you see anything reaching you, and if so can you re sync the box / push the update / try anything else please?

James.

Hi James,

There's still no connection showing on the servers.

I've tried a resync from this end, so reset the Sure Signal again to pick this up.

Dave

James

I'm wondering if your problem got sorted, as I am still without an effective Sure Signal?
