Just installed a replacement SS3 after the last one died.

Initially did change device in profile end of last week but device refused to connect (in service and in use lights solid orange, power light blinking),

De-registred and re-registered just in case, still the same.

Ping and speed test fine:

Ping 10ms

28Mbps Down

3.29Mbps up

Tracing route to 212.183.133.177 over a maximum of 30 hops

I have changed my router since the last SS died and this one being installed, but not sure what difference that could make?

Sure singal Serial: 42152736049

MyIP: 212.69.52.79

Any suggestions?

Thank!

Just to be safe given this is a new router, I've also given the VSS a static IP through DHCP address reservation and forwarded all ports that VSS require to that IP (8,50, 123, 500. 4500 and 1723).

Still no joy.

@dysonco - Everything you’ve posted looks fine.

The light sequence you’re seeing indicates there’s been a failure in the authentication process, during setup.

Please try restarting your Sure Signal as this should allow everything to update. Make sure you leave it connected for 24 hours to complete.

If you’re still having issues after trying this, please let us know who your ISP is and what router you’re using.

Hi there,

Reset device yesterday at around midday and still no luck.

ISP is www.idnet.com and router is Tplink TD-W9980.

Thanks,

Mike

@dysonco - Thanks for getting back in touch.

As everything else you've posted looks OK, this may be an issue with your ISP.

That router supports both PPPoE or PPPoA protocol, but the Sure Signal is designed for PPPoA.

Please check with your ISP that the bridge setting on the router will work to allow PPPoA devices to run.

Hi There,

Okay, discussed this with my ISP and they have a couple of points here.

Typically PPOA is used on ADSL, pretty much all FTTC however uses PPOE.  SO are you saying that the VFSS DOES NOT support fttc connections?  If so, surely this is something that should be clearly mentioned/ raised when purchasing the device?

Secondly as a lot of obviously very technically competent people have mentioned  on these forums, there should not be any reason why PPOA and PPOE should have an effect.  if its a MTU size issue a simple change at SS server end to reduce this to a level supported by PPOE would be a simple fix?

Please clarify the situation here as as far as I am concerned thew SS is not fit for purpose!

Thanks,

Dysonco

@dysonco

The Sure Signal should work fine with FFTC connections.

I can’t see anything that would be stopping this from working.

I’ve resynced your Sure Signal as a last resort, please allow up to 24 hours for this to take effect.

Hi Wayne,

But in the previous posts you mention the sure signal only supports PPOA, yet typically FTTC is PPOE?

Just as a straw pole, i did a quick google and BT, Plusnet, SKY and IDNET all require PPOE for thier fibre connections...

As mentioned in my previous post, it it doesn't support PPOE then it doesn't support FTTC and isn't fit for purpose.

Best,

Mike

Still nothing happening here.

Any suggestions or further comments about the lack of PPOE support and how that effects anyone on FTTC connections?

Thanks,

Mike

@dysonco - As mentioned above, the Sure Signal is designed for PPPoA.

The bridge setting on the router should work to allow PPPoA devices to run, but you'd need to check this with your ISP directly.
