Solution

Sure signal has stopped working

Hi guys,

I had a working vodafone sure signal for some time until recently - no idea why it has stopped working.  ISP is virgin meda.

Now the power light turns on, but the other lights flash.

On the back looking at the lights on the router/modem port, I have a constant orange light on the left, and a green light on the right (the green light is constant, but blinks occasionally, I guess this is the activity light)

Serial of unit = 40110530595

I have tried troubleshooting as follows.

- I have reset the device as per the instructions in the forum (no change)

- I have setup port forwarding as per the following page as recommended in the forum

http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Netgear/VMDG480/Vodafone_Sure_Signal.htm

note - not sure why this is needed as the virgin router has been at factory settings previoiusly and worked fine.  Also phoned virgin and they said they do not block any ports?

- have run traceroute and speedtest, speedtest result attached, traceroute below.  The traceroute looks a problem as I don't think I am even getting out to the vodafone servers (this result shows 212.183.133.177, same problem for 212.183.133.178 and 212.183.133.179)

nah still not working tried a factory reset and normal reset forgot to say ive opened that port as UDP and TCP never bothered with the ip addresses as I was told it wouldnt make ant difference, plus it was all working fine without the ports being forwarded until last thursday week ago!!

Hi Guys,

Many thanks for the updates here and I think we will need to look at both of these in more details.

So that we can do this I have sent you both a PM, please follow the instruction on this and one of our team will be in touch as soon as possible.

You can find your PM inbox here.

My Sure Signak has stopped working after a period of relatively reliable use. It has reverted to the solid power light and slow flashing @ symbol. I have tried a hard reset...nothing. I have set up port forwarding (although I don't think this was necessary) - still nothing. The SS serila number is 21197162874. Could anyone at tech help please...this is frustrating.

Many thanks,

Hi, I have the same issue, I have had the suresignal since before Christmas (2011) it has worked fine until this morning when the power light was showing as on and both the other lights showed as flashing, and they have been like it all day.

I have a lousy reception again, I cannot find any information regarding troubleshooting this scenario, it just says that the two flashing lights means update (but all day?)

Serial number is 40114214147

Looks like I've just joined the flashing power and 2nd light club!

SureSignal has been fine for over a year and just dropped out yesterday. I've tried rebooting and resetting my broadband but it's now been u/s for 17 hours.

Having wasted enough time trying to reset the damn thing I could really use some lay-mans advice! I may be the only no-technical user in the entire UK but advice like 'Your Router will also need to be able to assign the Sure Signal with a DNS Server address via DHCP'

might as well be in Swahili!

Anyone suggest how/where I might begin my uphill struggle to get this sorted??

Look like I need to post my Serial Number - 21196917666

Well....Having spent almost all day trying to get this resolved I am no further forward. Called Vodafone support earlier and spent 40 or so minutes going through a host of tests and firewall rounter config changes. Then told "wait an hour and it should be ok, we will call you in 1 hour to check all is ok" That was 90 minutes ago......So Vodafone I'll just sit here with my life on hold shall I? Despite the fact that the onus seems to be placed on my SS or router by Vodafone, I notice a large number os similar issues from other posters?

For crying out loud Vodafone get ya fingers out!!!

In the interests of fairness and to give a balanced view, I have commend the (2nd) technical support team and in particular a guy named Mustafa. I spent a few hours on the phone today and Mustafa guided me through everything with a calm. friendly and  utterly polite attitude. He even called me back as my phone battery was failing and then again later to check if the issue was fixed!

In the end the problem couldnt be resolved on the phone so a 'rethink' was initiated by Vodafone and that has solved my problem at least!

I appreciate I may have been lucky but if you're fortunate enough to get Mustafa then you're in good hands! He's a credit to Vodafone!
