Hi k1pperman,

Thanks for the information you've given.

We'll need a little more information to be able to see what's happening.

Firstly, take a look at our Sure Signal Troubleshooting thread.

If this doesn’t resolve your query, please post your reply either below, or in the relevant thread, with the following information.

Your speed test results from here.
Your ping test results from here.
Your external IP address from here.
The results of a traceroute.
Your Sure Signal serial number:

VSS Traceroute command

On a PC:

Click on Start and select Run
Type CMD into the Run box and press enter/click ok
A black box will appear.
In this box type tracert 212.183.133.177 press Enter
Paste the output of this command into your reply.

Thanks

Andrew

Hi Andrew I won't be able to carry these tests out for a couple of weeks, please leave open

Hi K1pperman,

Those stats all look fine.

Do you have the serial number of the Sure Signal box, though? It looks like you missed that.

Dave

Sorry it's 21197175330

Hi there k1pperman,

Thanks for the serial number.

I can see the registration and everything seems fine except the VSS has never connected with our servers.

Can I ask if you've tried the troubleshooting in this thread?

Cheers,

LeeH

Hi thanks for the link. Some progress as router now recognising VSS and IP address being allocated. The MTU should be 1500 as standard I don't seem to be able to change that. Currently the power light on and internet light flashing slowly, so looking for your servers I guess. Left running all night but no connection established, just tried the old switch it on and off trick but same result. Any more thoughts?

Hi k1pperman,

If your ISP is maintaining that there's nothing that should be restricting your service, I'd recommend testing your Sure Signal on another internet connection for a couple of hours.

If you can do this at a friend, neighbour or relatives, it will help us to rule out a faulty unit.

Can you post back with the result when you get a chance? :Smiling:

Cheers, Ben

Before I add another complication by tying the VSS out elsewhere I would just like to recap having discovered lots about my router. I did contact sky support but it seemed like they were suggesting reserving an address and then going back to you for further configuring. This didn't feel right. So it seems only a couple of things need to be set on the router. 1 to act as a DHCP server thereby allocating IP address to the VSS and this is happening because the router is picking up the MAC address. 2. UPnP set so no need for port forwarding etc. seems as simple as that. Having made the connection what length of time need I wait before the VSS connects to whatever you have at your end? I'm seriously thinking about chucking the lot away and finding another provider, in this day and age this is taking far too long to resolve.
