Sure signal not working

mattyboy7110
4: Newbie

Hi,

My sure signal is poorly. If I reset it a few times, eventually it works but only for a short amount of time.

I've gone through the troubleshooting guide and no joy. I just get the power light. Sometimes the second light flashes but generally it's just the top light on all the time.

Serial Number 21227825490

ISP Plusnet

Router DLink DSL-2740B

It's worked previously for years (probably) but now it's just not happy any more.

Please help.

Thanks

Hi Mattyboy,

Quite a few of us are now finding the power supplies are giving strange symptoms and failures due to age on the Mk. 1 and 2 Sure Signals...... This could be your problem!

The only way to diagnose this problem is to try another power supply.

The genuine power supplies are available on Amazon for about £10 delivered, or there are some on ebay.

There are a couple of threads relating to this problem  .... http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Vodafone-Sure-Signal/VSS1-in-constant-loop/td-p/2335822

Worth a try!

Good luck.

Mike.

Hi @veally

The IP address is on the whitelist.  The light sequence you've provided means that the Sure Signal is not active.

Please try a reboot if that does not work, the next step would be a repair.

Thanks,

Sukhi

Somehow it seems to mhave come to life. Not sure exactly what caused this, but hopeful of a period of stability...................

Hi Ranikhatib,

There is an ongoing issue between the Sure Signal and Virgin Media.

Check out this thread for more information ......

Hi - Looking for help as my Sure Signal stopped working around a week or so ago.

Followed all the troubleshooting guides for various statuses i.e. solid light one & solid lights one & two, and even solid one & two and flashing light 4, but still no joy, and what it will not do is a reset - when you hold the reset button nothing happens for a while and then all lights come on separately for a moment only and then go back to a solid power light only.

Router is an EE BrightBox (also have a BT Home Hub 4 and that won't work either)

I look forward to some help from you - and I've seen that you always request the trace test results so here goes: -

Hi clfs,

Judging by your symptoms, it could be your power supply even thou the power light is showing as ok.

Anyone who has had a working connection with a V1 Sure signal and now hasn't, should buy or borrow another power supply as they are now failing regularly due to age.

It may not be your problem, but the only easy way to find out is to substitute it, and they are not expensive (less than £10 on the web).

Further info on my post (message 😎 above.

Good luck,

Mike.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for that, well worth a try for a tenner I think.
