Sure signal

Wanted to ask a question regarding sure signal. Currently we have no call coverage at our home address (2+ weeks now) with no idea when it will be back. I'm seriously considering purchasing a sure signal device and wanted to make sure that as well as 3G data I would be able to make and receive calls and texts also. And are there any additional charges applied by Vodafone for using the phone this way?

Hi there

Using a SureSignal is not different from using a 3G connection on the network.  The key difference for you is that the device will be your own private transmitter that only devices you authorise can connect to.

If you use data through the SureSignal, it is the same as using data on the actual network.  You will be able to use the device to make calls, send texts and picture messages.  Standard charges will apply.  IF you have inclusive minutes, texts and data, whatever you use over the SureSignal will be deducted from your allowance.

Hi

"In the Sure Signal’s favour, it does pretty much exactly what it says on the box: improves Vodafone reception for a limited number of people. Call quality and texting are vastly improved: you’ll get full bars when you’re in the same room as the Sure Signal, dropping steadily down until you lose connection around 30-40m away.

From anecdotal results, it seems to have more or less the same range and penetration as a high quality Wi-Fi router.

Data-wise, the Sure Signal provides a 3G connection, so it’s not going to be blisteringly fast; realistically around 5Mbps, depending of course on the broadband connection that the Sure Signal’s connected to.

Of course, internet connectivity isn’t the Sure Signal’s main selling point – chances are, your Sure Signal will be connected alongside a Wi-Fi router, which is much better suited to providing data to a smartphone."

Hi

The Sure Signal creates a 3G signal that your handset uses for calls and SMS. Whilst it may be able to be used for 3G data , you need a broadband connection for it to work so you will be connected to your home Wi-Fi anyway giving you a data connection

Thanks
