Suresignal v1 Stopped 24hrs ago

I have a v1 SS box connected to PlusNet home broadband. The device has worked (with occasional minor outages) for the past 5yrs at this address. Overnight last night it stopped working.

The lights sequence is a cycle. Power light always on, Light 2 (@) flashes, then after a couple of minutes stays lit, at which point Light 4 blinks for another 2 minutes, then 2 and 4 go out and the cycle re-starts.

I called this morning and spoke to Tech, who initiated a re-sync. This did nothing. I also (twice) did a full factory reset as per troubleshooting instructions.

Severe frustration time!

Following my last post, the device stayed up and worked properly for 48 hours and I vainly hoped all was now well.

Today however we're back to square 1...
Device in "Ready" mode. No 3G signal broadcast to any phones.

We're still on the same IP address too as our ADSL has not been restarted for 9 days.

Hi Duncan,

The Sure Signal 40134954789 connected to our servers fine at 1:55am this morning.

If you're still struggling, let me know which router it is you're using with Plusnet. Also, does repositioning the Sure Signal in a different part of the house away from the router improve connectivity?

Cheers, Ben

Thanks Ben.

The router is the standard Plusnet-supplied Technicolor TG582n running standard firmware.

I have configured both Vodafone SS3 devices I've tried inside the router's DMZ and without such config, with no difference. (The internal IP address has a non-expiring DHCP lease to the SS3 mac address)

I've also tried it with the SS3 box connected directly to the Plusnet router and to a Cat5e cable outlet at the other side of the house, with no change, as I also wondered about conflicting wireless interference. But this isn't signal degradation, it's ON/OFF i.e. full set of 3G bars on all phones, or nothing at all on any phones.

Both devices have followed exactly the same pattern. Worked as soon as initially set up, then a period of working/not working in very brief bursts of minutes, then 48-72hrs all fine, then nothing at all.

I can't think of any router configuration issues that might explain what's happening.

Duncan

Hi Duncan,

Thanks for getting back to us.

From what you’ve said, it doesn’t sounds like a configuration issue because it’s connecting fine.

Are you on a data capped broadband or is this an unlimited setup?

Do you know if Plusnet have any data traffic management that could cause the open VPN tunnel for the Sure Signal to be closed?

James

Thanks James. My Plusnet broadband tariff is unlimited and I called them this afternoon to confirm I haven't violated any abuse triggers.

They say that VPN traffic is managed at almost the highest priority "Gold" so nothing should be causing disconnects. I have, to be certain, raised a ticket with them including the definitive list of ports supplied to me by yourselves, to ensure none of the critical ports are being incorrectly identified as P2P or similar traffic and managed downwards.

I'd also add that if management was suspected, the likelihood is we'd see a regular pattern of disconnects at certain (peak usage) times? I've had zero signal now continuously for a number of days.

I will post-back if Plusnet respond with anything other than an open pipe.

Just to be sure the ports I gave them were...
