Hi simagee
Thanks for your details, I have attached these to the investigation into bandwidth use, so far we have 2 customers showing the same symptoms.
The interesting thing is you’re both using the same router with the same firmware. I'm not pointing any fingers here as we need to wait for our findings on this but I am wandering if it’s more than a coincidence. I'm trying to track down a home hub 2.0 user who isn’t having these problems to see what firmware version they have.
Thanks

Just to let you know, I've edited Ben's post above slightly as it contained some information which might not help regarding hub firmware. We continue to look into this.
Thanks,
Tom

ISP is BT
BT Home Hub 3. Problem started on BT Home Hub 2 in March.
Router firmware - no idea
max of 2
Speed surges after the hub was reset or BT did a fix to about 2mb and then gradually over a few days would decrease to at worst 8kbps. Bizarrely I also found that sometimes if I made an outgoing call on the landline where it was answered this would clear the blockage and the BB speed would return to it's max immediately.
Since VSS disconnected got steady 2mb and no issues.
Problem started in March 2011

Hi simagee
I’m afraid we’re not sure of how long this will take. It will depend on what the actual issue is and how long it takes to figure out, but rest assured, we’ll keep you updated as soon as we hear anything.
Thanks

Could you advise of the returns policy as I would rather have £50 than a box that does not work.
May I suggest that you make a note to other potential buyers about this problem as I would hate to find out that you knew about this problem when Ibought the box.
Am not suggesting you did, just that you should let other people know prior to purchase now that you do know.

I was downloading Sky content last night, downloading backtrack ISO at 2GB ish and on the phone via VSS. Again no probs.
I'd be surprised if the router has QOS on it, is it not the typical packet shaping/throttling via the ISP?

QoS is the set of techniques to manage network resources, by managing the delay, delay variation (jitter), bandwidth, and packet loss parameters on networks, in effect parameters to guarantee a certain level of performance.

I have still not been able to use my VSS.

Hello - what is the answer to this issue?I have had a second warning from BT that I have used 7GB in 3 weeks. This isn't possible with the data usage from email as we don't download any large files or stream media. I rteckon based on average data usage over the past 5 years taken from my ISP the sure signal is using 1.5 GB per week which is clearly ridiculous. How do i stop it being so greedy?

Hi mikeb2me and welcome to the eForum
I’m sorry to hear that you are having problems with this too. Have you tried everything on this thread? Especially the first page?
Have you tried moving the Sure Signal down the priority list on your router?
If you have and you’re still having problems please can you reply with the information that Lee asks for at the end of the first page?
Please let me know and we’ll be happy to help you further.
Thanks
Wayne

Did you ever get a solution to this problem. I gao a SureSignal box this week and have the same issues. I only receive about 2mb Boradband speed normally as I live in a rural area. However, onece SureSignal is connected, I am completely nable to use the broadband - all sites timeout. I've also has to reset my BT wireless router as connections completely drop out i.e. no ability to print etc.
The Vodafone signal is great when its connected but that's no good if I can't do any work on the web. It seems I have the following choices -
- vodafone signal but no internet access
- internet access but no vodafone signal
- change mobile supplier - Orange, O2 and others provide good coverage in our area (expensive as I have multiple handsets on different deals and end dates)
- install secondary broadband connection (expensive option)
- hope Vodafone can resolve - seems unlikely based on other forum entries - but all fingers are crossed ![]()

Hi Kevin_S
We have been aware that while maintenance has been carried out this week users have been unable to register new devices, please can you let me know if you are still experiencing difficulties.
If you are I’d like to help to resolve this VSS (Vodafone Sure Signal) issue for you, but to do this I will need to take some further information from you.
Can you post the following results to this thread?
Traceroute.
- On a PC / Laptop :
- Click on Start and select Run
- Type CMD into the Run box and press enter/click ok
- A black box will appear.
- In this box type tracert 212.183.133.177 press Enter
- Paste the output of this command into your reply.
And finally, your VSS serial number.
Many Thanks
DaveCD
