V2 SS won't connect

stevehunt100
4: Newbie

SS s/no 40110908536 is registered with my account now but won't connect.  Red light steady but two white lights just keep flashing.  I have reset SS and waited over 24 hours but no change.  My firewall has all the necessary ports open and addresses allowed.

I've finally got it to work but have had to go to ridiculous lengths.

1. the above list of ip address isn't enough.  Your server at 88.82.13.183 was being blocked.  That's not on the list.  Have you got servers you don't know about?

2. I've had to set an extra firewall rule that allows the vodafone servers to connect to my router's external ip.  This shouldn't be necessary - at most I should only have to allow your servers to connect to my internal address - the SS device itself.  NAT should handle this but it clearly isn't so I had to allow your sites to connect to my router.  Very odd.

3. Then it worked for a few minutes and I tracked it down to my dynamic ip address changing so I had to change the rule to cover my new external ip address.  I WILL HAVE TO DO THIS EVERY FEW DAYS WHENEVER MY ip CHANGES.

4. Then it worked for a few minutes and then stopped.  Everything on my network stopped.  This was caused by the router seeing incoming traffic (88.82.13.183 again) as a DOS attack as it was hitting me with more than 150 requests per second.  WHY????  Relaxing the DOS threshold to 300 fixes this.

5. What a crock.

Hi stevehunt100,

The lights you are seeing show that the Sure Signal is downloading a profile from our servers.

This can take up to 6 hours to complete and if it’s interrupted, will start from scratch again.

I’ve checked your serial number and can see it connected to our servers at 01:50 this morning, is everything now working for you?

Cheers,

Andrew

Nope still flashing...

and still flashing......................

ans stiiiiiiil flashing!

any better ideas than waiting another 6 hours?  STILL flashing.

Hi stevehunt100,

Your Sure Signal connected to our servers at 02:20 today.

It’s unusual that you’re still seeing the flashing lights.

Who is your ISP and what router are you using?

Can you also check the cabled connections between the Sure Signal and your router; are they all solid?

Also, do you have the option of trying a different Ethernet cable?

Can you also provide the following information:-

Your speed test results from here.
Your ping test results from here.
Your external IP address from here.

Cheers,

Andrew

Hi

176.249.225.22 but it's dynamic so it'll change in a few days.  It's been the same for over 24 hours now though.

Draytek 2820

Sky broadband

From your test sites:

Download 2.6 Mbps

Upload 0.57 Mbps

ping  21ms, 0 packets lost, 0 jitter.

I've just changed the ethernet cable but it seemed solid.

I,e re-done the tracert:

my ip changed to 176.248.127.75 during the night

still flashing

Same question again from above...:-

SS version 2 s/no 40110908544 won't even reset.  All I get is red power light.  When turning on power, the 3 lights flash briefly and then just the red power light stays on.  I've tried holding the rest button down for at least a minute but nothing flashes.  Is it dead?
