For your Information

Thank you for offering to connect rural notspots.

I write to report our communities serial disappointment regarding Vodafone's failure to support Vodafone clients in our area and enquire what action Vodafone proposes to remedy this situation where coverage has deteriorated in recent years but Vodafone has continued charging subscriptions.

despite the substandard service.

An intermittent 2G signal is detectable in parts of the parish Postcode E.G.   TA116NZ

Our parish has no mobile phone towers or telephone exchanges and has been devoid of new telecom infrastructure investment for over sixty years and no supplier has undertaken yet to make any investment in the parish.

Fibre optic cables pass through our parish but no one in the parish has the benefit of a fibre optic connection.

The school did have a fibre optic connection but has now closed.

What do I need to apply?

Before sending us your application, make sure your community has:

  • Nominated a Village Champion
  • Suitable sites where we can install Open Sure Signal units
  • Permission from landlords and property owners to use these sites
  • A minimum of 4MBps broadband speed at each site
  • Support from your local parish council, MP, AM or MSP

To find out more, see our FAQs

Why does Vodafone go out of its way to discriminate against rural communities by demanding that we have a

'A minimum of 4MBps broadband speed at each site'

even to apply, which through being a rural notspot we clearly do not have.

Is this Vodafone posturing or is it committed to resolving rural hotspots?

Clearly if Vodafone is committed to making future proof investment in rural areas and notspots then  Vodafone should be investing in LTE technology with microwave point to point backhaul  not the piggy backing on the existing poorly performing infrastructure. Vodafone now has significant capability microwave point to point backhaul that could revolutionise rural telecoms but has failed to provide competition to fixed line services and broadband in rural areas.

If the  offer is to have  substance  please could Vodafone provide  LTE rural macro sites in Compton Dundon commencing 2014 - we will judge Vodafone by its actions not by its press releases.
