Solution

VSS V1 & Virgin Media Super Hub 2

Since upgrading to a Virgin Media Super Hub 2 my Vodafone Sure Signal version 1 has been stuck with lights 1, 2 and 4 on. So far I have tried:

  • Deregistered and Reregistered the VSS.
  • Enabled IPSec Pass-Through (and temporailiy disabled the VM Firewall)
  • Factory reset the VSS with the 30 second hold / power cycle / lights flash process.

VVS 1 had been working fine with 2 iPhone 4S for several years. Feels like a Virgin Media problem, but I cannot much information on VSS version 1 with a Super Hub 2.

The Sure Signal shows as active on the Dash Board. Serial number is 21196773044.

Any advice warmly welcomed.

Thanks, Justin.

1 ACCEPTED SOLUTION

I decided to have one more go and now it seems to be working.

Here's what I did...

  • I de-registered the VSS1 in My Vodafone
  • Held the reset button until all 4 lights are solid - approx 10seconds

  • Removed the Power Cable (still holding reset button)
  • Removed the Network Cable (still holding reset button)
  • Waited 10seconds (still holding reset button)
  • Replaced Power Cable (still holding reset button)
  • Waited 10seconds - lights blinked in sequence 1, 2, 3, 4.(still holding reset button).
  • Released reset button
  • Waited 5minutes
  • Replaced Network Cable.

Then it started working. But it wasn't registered, so I went back to My Vodafone and re-regsistered it. Which made it stop working. Annoying.

So I repeated the above steps after re-registering the VSS1 in My Vodafone and now it works and is registered.

I still have no idea what caused it to camp for 10 days and haven't had any response from Vodafone Tech but at least it is working now...

Hi Justin,

Thanks for posting. Can you take a look at our Sure Signal Troubleshooting thread, and then post back your full results if you’re not directed to an existing thread? :Smiling:

Cheers, Ben

Hi Ben,

Thanks for your reply, especially over the weekend. From your link I selected the following;

Version 1 Sure Signal Troubleshooting

and then

Correct lights on but not picking up 3G signal.

Check that the phone you’re using works on 3G.

Using iPhone 4S. Stable with VVS1 since November 2011.

Check that the number you’re using has been added to your Sure Signal.

Using account holder's phone number ending 7384.

Test your SIM in another 3G phone.

Tested in another iPhone, identical results.

Has Your SIM recently been replaced?

Not changed since 2011.

If you’ve completed all the troubleshooting steps above and not identified the cause of the issue, your Sure Signal may be faulty. Please post in this thread and we can look into it further.

Please do. I have been offine for over a week now.

Many thanks,

Justin.
