Solution

Vodafone Sure Signal 3

KathrynD
4: Newbie

I looked at your 'Trouble Shooting - please read first' but it doesn't cover the issue I have.

I have a steady Red light and a slow flashing White Internet light (nothing else) and it's been like that for 24 hours now.

  • Download speed is 10.5
  • Upload speed is .8
  • All other internet devices work as expected
  • S/N of Sure signal is 40131955821

I now cannot use my mobile as reception in my area (NN12 7SE) is so awful.

Grateful for your advice.

Kathryn

Serial Number - sorry after around 30 attempts it is now running and if I take it out to find the serial number I'll be here literally all night trying to get it back up and working.  It connects about once in 30 attempts at the moment.

Found serial number via a different route - 40131955821

Hi @KathrynD

Thanks for the information posted.

Looking at the light sequence that you’re describing, the Vodafone Sure Signal is initialising.

Please can you ensure that the IPSEC setting has been selected on the router settings? If you’re unsure on how to do this, please contact your internet service provider.

Cheers,

Laura

OK - it came back and was working. Now I find that the SS3 is indicating it is working (Steady Red and steady white lights) but there is seemingly no 3G signal after four days of working. I have two phones (a Blackberry and an iPhone 5 - IoS 8.1.1). Despite restarting the router BT Home Hub 4) and the SS3 with both up and running I have no 3GS signal,on either telephone which indicates the issue is not with the phones as both fail to connect. It is either the SS3 has died after less than a year or there's a more serious issue with yourselves. Please advise as £100 SS3 should lreasonably last longer than 12 months.

I have now restarted everything again (lost count of the number of times). The VSS is connected to my home network on IP address 198.168.1.68 but it will not connect to Vodafone seemingly. The Internet light has remained slow flashing for an hour or so but I cannot find out how long I can expect this to continue - it's not in your list of possible light sequences as far as I can see - in the past it has been a max of 10 mins. I am getting very fed up with this expensive device which just doesn't seem to work as I reasonably think it should.

I think I may have resolved the issue this morning. After reading this information - There are a few other technological gripes. The Sure Signal is well-documented to cause crippling interference if placed within a metre or so of a Wi-Fi router – not a huge problem, but inconvenient if you already have all your networking devices in one cupboard or shelf, or live in a tiny London flat. - I moved my router (BT Home Hub 5) half a metre further away from the Sure Signal and the 3G signal came back with indecent haste. So it seems that possibly one of the frequencies on the BT HH5 may be 'interfering' with the ability of the Sure Signal to broadcast a 3G signal. Does that seem reasonable? I'll monitor things over the next couple,of days and see if the errors return or if the 3G signal remains stable.

It worked just fine for just over 24 hours and is now not broadcasting a 3G signal - neither phone (BlackBerry or iPhone 5 can find a signal).  Full reboot of router and VSS3 produces nothing new - no 3G signal again.  I have run what I think is the MAC equivalent of pathping which is below (why can I not attach the file?) which doesn't seem to me to indicated errors.  I am running out of ideas - perhaps you could resync the Sure Signal for me?

Hi @KathrynD

The Sure Signal needs to be at least one metre away from the router as it can cause interference.

As you’re still getting the issue, can you try and different Ethernet cable in a different port on your router?

Thanks,

Simon
