Vodafone Sure Signal v2 (steady power, flashing system lights)

Hi There,

I have a Vodafone Sure Signal v2 that seems to be stuck with a steady power light and flashing system light. The light has been flashing for over 2 hours and will not stop. The phone light is off. Could you please advise if I have a faulty device?

Thanks for your help in advance!

My 2p into the topic.

When SS were 1st released, we purchased 2 for work and spent hours on the phone with our ISP and VF to try and get them working.

We never did, and they have since been allocated elsewhere for home use.

Exactly the same symptoms it would sit for days with flashing lights attempting to connect.

Attach the device to a different network and it worked fine.

All I can think of is that either an unusual subnet mask (even though issued by DHCP) was stopping conversations, or our IP range was not in the 'allowed' list.

Do you have a friends internet connection you can try the box on (ideally with a different ISP), see what the results are?

The ping/tracert commands above are fine, the timeouts are because the next hop in the link between you and VF are set not to reply to queries (good defence against attacks) only worrying if any timings are constantly above 200ms

It could also be that VPN is not working through your router for whatever reason, but that is a fair way down the troubleshooting list.

Thanks for your reply, I am on a simple subnet of 192.168.0.1 i have just tried it on the DMZ with no luck. My ISP is demon and they do not block any ports. Any other ideas?

do you have a non-demon friend that you can plug into their router for an hour and see if things settle down?

Just checked on the DMZ and now Power Light is on, the System Light is on and the Phone Light is off.

That status is it working ok.

When you make a call the phone light should flash to show that you have a phone connected and talking through it

Hi markamicitia

Thanks for your posts. As grolschuk suggests these lights confirm the status as normal. I've checked your Sure Signal from our end and it is connecting to the network with the last connection at 02:09 this morning. Your traceroute also looks fine.

Has everything settled down and are you able to use your phone's services via the Sure Signal or are you still experiencing difficulties?

Thanks

Simon

I am having the same probelm with a suresignal box. Have followed the trouble shooting guides.

I am also having a similar issue.

SS V2 stopped working on Monday having worked fine for well over a year. It now attempts to connect with both white lights flashing for about 10-15 minutes then it just sits there with the red power light. The ethernet port lights are flashing OK.

Steps I have taken:

  • Reset VSS2 many times, no change.
  • Reset and powered off then de-registered, waited 4 hours, then re-registered and powered on again, no change.

I am without any signal in the house and I am due to work from home next week so it is essential that this service is back up and running by Monday.

I would be grateful of any assistance you can provide.

Thanks

Cormac

Hi guys,

sparkiemike - The likely problem jumped out at me there.

The very first hop on the Traceroute looks pretty changeable, but when it's high it is well over 200ms. Anything over this causes the Sure Signal to time out.

If the lights keep flashing, this suggests that the Sure Signal is timing out, then trying again when the time-lag drops. When it goes back up again it times out and starts the cycle again.

Can you re-run the traceroute so we can see if this was just a temporary hiccup?

==========================================

maccas99 - The speeds and Traceroute are fine, so no issues there.

I can see that the system detected a location move a while back which was cleared by the deregistration this morning. I've done a resync to ensure that everything picks back up, so can you do a fresh factory reset of the Sure Signal?

  • Hold down the reset button until all the lights show (about 30 seconds)
  • Keeping the reset button held down, remove then re-insert the power lead.
  • Once all lights display release the reset button.
  • The Sure Signal will come online in around 1 hour.

If this doesn’t sort things, can you confirm your external IP address so we can check this?

Dave

@ Dave - thanks for the prompt response.

I've just done the fresh factory reset but the SS2 keeps defaulting back to just the red power light. The two white (system/phone) lights flash for 10-15 minutes but then go out and nothing else happens.

Here is my public IP: 185.16.160.246.

Thanks

Maccas
