Vodafone Sure Signal

Hi.

One of my staff has taken a Vodafone Sure Signal to assist with his phone signal whilst he works from home in a remote area.

The Sure Signal is 3rd Generation Alcatel Lucent 9361 p3.0

The router is Netgear DG834 V4

Before I type up the port settings of what he has tried etc can you tell me if this current setup would fail with a flashing red light and amber phone icon if the upload speed on the line is not enough.

According to our research the upload would need to be 1.5mb for this device to work, we presently only have 400k.

Would this device check the line speed first and act as above because of this before I tried anything else, if so we are wasting time opening ports etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi SteveHindle

Please take a look at our Sure Signal Troubleshooting thread. If this doesn’t resolve your query, please post your reply either below, or in the relevant thread, together with the details requested, including the following information.

Your speed test results from here.

Your ping test results from here.

Your external IP address from here.

The results of a traceroute.

Your Sure Signal serial number:

VSS Traceroute command

On a PC:

Click on Start and select Run

Type CMD into the Run box and press enter/click ok

A black box will appear.

In this box type tracert 212.183.133.177 press Enter

Paste the output of this command into your reply.

This will help us get the quickest possible resolution for you.

Thanks

James

Hi thanks for the replies and apologies on starting a new thread I should have known better.

Unfortunatly this device belongs to the MD who only occasionally needs it when offsite at another location and he is not there now.

We have sort of been informed that the device has registered but will not work correctly or will not go green because of the upload speed.

If you guys think it will then it contradicts the other info we are getting.  Life can be like that.

Can you just once again confirm that this Sure Signal which is a version 3 model will function on the upload download speed he has (400k / 1.5mb)

We will take it from there depending on your response.

Thanks, Steve

Hi Steve,

The speeds you're reporting should be sufficient for Sure Signal to work properly. For reliable use, we recommend a minimum download of 4.13Mbps and a minimum upload of 0.36Mbps (or 368.64KB). There's further details here. :Smiling:

If they're still having issues, let me know their traceroute, IP, serial number and full speedtest details from the troubleshooter

Cheers, Ben

So upload = 400K, minimum required is 368.64K; download = 1.5M, minimum required is 4.13M.

Sounds like the download speed is well too weak. Although that is the 'recommended' so it may still work; I'd post the tracert and such so they can see if that's the source of the failure or if it's soldiering on but something else is borking things.

Ok, I think I will have to wait until the MD takes this again with him and take it from there when he has filled out the data needed.

Thanks for you help everyone.

Steve

Hi Steve,

Everything is fine with your speed test, ping test and traceroute.

Your IP address is on our whitelist, so no problems there either.

I can see your Sure Signal connected to our servers at 20:40 last night, is it now working correctly for you?

If not, as well as the ports you’ve opened/forwarded, can you add the following as well:-

Port Number

8          TCP      UDP (you just need to ##### the UDP protocol)

53         TCP      UDP

67                     UDP

68                     UDP

500                   UDP

1723     TCP      UDP

33434 - 33445    UDP

Let me know how you go on.

Cheers,

Andy
