iPhone 4S unable to connect

Hi,

I am unable to get my new iPhone 4S to connect to my SureSignal despite rebootin both the box and the handset. We had a similar issue with my wife's 4S a few months ago and it required a re-sync of the SureSignal. Can this please be arranged again?

Many thanks,

Ross

Re: iPhone 4S unable to connect

Hi

Can you take a look at our Sure Signal Troubleshooting thread, and then post back your results if you’re not directed to an existing thread?

Thanks

Matt

Re: iPhone 4S unable to connect

Thanks Matt,

I've had a read through the troubleshooting thread but it hasn't really helped.

So here's the situation with a bit more detail...

- Until yesterday my HTC Legend was able to use the SureSignal without issue.

- Yesterday I received my new handset (iPhone 4S) and activated my new micro SIM (same number as above).

- Logged into MyAccount and checked SureSignal users, my name/number is no longer listed.

- Trying to add my number results in the below error...

Sorry we are not able to process your request because of following errors in your form.

  • Sorry. You can only add users who have a Vodafone mobile phone number. This will start with 07, and have 11 digits.
  • You're already added this person to your Sure Signal. If you'd like to add someone else, please choose another person.

Re: iPhone 4S unable to connect

Ok, so I now understand that (as the owner/administrator of the SS) I don't actually need to add my own number to the user list. Still, I am unable to get any 3G coverage from my SS on my iPhone 4S. Can you please advise on the next step - as per my initial comment a resync from your end sorted this exact problem for my wife when she upgraded from her iPhone 3GS to a 4s earlier in the year...

Re: iPhone 4S unable to connect

Hi folks,

I've been made aware that some Sure Signal users will need to restart their units after an upgrade that was performed yesterday/last night on 17th July.

• Reboot your Router / Modem
Turn off your Router or Modem at the wall for 10 seconds, then turn it back on. Wait for the lights on your Modem/Router to indicate an internet connection has been established, and then press the Reset button on the Sure Signal.
• Factory Reset
Hold down the reset button until all the lights show (about 30 secs) keeping the reset button held down, remove then reinsert the power lead, once all lights display release the reset button. The Sure signal will come online in around 1 hour maximum.
Please let me know if you're still experiencing issues after following these instructions.
Cheers, Ben

Re: iPhone 4S unable to connect

Hi lianne9kids,

Thanks for your post here.

Can you confirm if the Sure Signal is registered to your iPhone 4 or the Blackberry?

If it is registered to the iPhone 4 please can you transfer the ownership to the Blackberry number and then remove and add your iPhone number back onto the registration.

If you are unable to do this then the next step would be to de-register and re-register the Sure Signal.

James

Re: iPhone 4S unable to connect

Guys, for what it's worth - when I got home on Wed (after posting the initial message in this thread) my iP4S connected to my SS without any issue. I had not made any changes so can only assume someone at Vodafone made a change or perhaps it takes a day or so for the system to settle down when you transfer to a new SIM. Either way - isseue now resolved.

Re: iPhone 4S unable to connect

My original model sure signal stopped working on the 17th.   I found this post and tried to reset as suggested but it didn't work.    I then went on a week's holiday and it's still not working.   I've checked my router (BT Home Hub) and that's set up as before.    I've checked my vodafone account and my sure signal's status is 'working'.      This is driving me nuts as it's the only way that I can use my mobile fin my house.   What's my next step?    In case it helps, its serial number is 21227843121.

Re: iPhone 4S unable to connect

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your posts here.

@ oldsch00l, I’m pleased to see that your Sure Signal is working again.

@ drusling, looking at the registration I can see that a location update has been detected which could be due to an IP range change by your ISP. I have updated the profile for you today please can you let me know if you are still experiencing any issues and what light sequence you are seeing.

Re: iPhone 4S unable to connect

Hi.

Similar issue to the above - i have a suresignal2, and two idevices (iphone 4s and ipad) both registered.

After the power up sequence, I get the usual flashing stuff, then a steady red power and white network light - no phone light

I get no signal on my devices - though the reduction in WIFI range I get when the SS2 is booted in this manner would appear to indicate that it's putting out a signal - this is driving me nuts as i cannot use my phone for work @ home.

also noticed the iphone saying 'no service' a lot more when the unit is on in this state - I get a weak signal when its powered off.

Can someone investigate for me?

Tried so far:

 - Reset (Sky) router

- reset ss2

- put SS2 with a mac reservation  and ports forwarded = no lights , only red power one

- put ss2 ip in DMZ = same as above

- currently using dhcp reservation, and up&p

- multiple iterations of above over the last week and same issue.

I even tried moving the SS2 to my next door neighbours postcode and back, and de-register/re-register.

Help!

Mart.

PS: SS Serial: 40113132753

Re: iPhone 4S unable to connect

Hi martgadget

Thanks for your post. I've checked your Sure Signal from the serial number and can see that it is connecting to the network, the last connection being at 22:57 on 02/08. I've resynced your device to see if this will push it along. If you could perform a factory reset to complete the process as below:

  • Hold down the reset button until all the lights show (about 30 seconds)
  • Keeping the reset button held down, remove then re-insert the power lead.
  • Once all lights display release the reset button.
  • The Sure Signal will come online in around 1 hour

If this doesn't make any difference please could you provide details of the following:

Please also perform a traceroute as follows:

On a PC :

Click on Start and select Run

Type CMD into the Run box and press enter/click ok

A black box will appear.

In this box type tracert 212.183.133.177    press Enter

Paste the output of this command into your reply.

Thanks

Simon

Re: iPhone 4S unable to connect

All I'm seeing is the power light.    The location hasn't changed since I installed the sure signal.

Re: iPhone 4S unable to connect

I don't run Windows, just Linux and OS X.    Results are:

My external IP address is 86.137.182.141

The speed test gave:

  Download of 5.00 Mbps

  Upload of 0.35 Mbps

I can't do the ping test without installing a java runtime, I'll do that and report back to you.

traceroute gave me:

david@PlayerOfGames:~$ traceroute 212.183.133.177

Re: iPhone 4S unable to connect

Without JRE installed, so no packet loss detection, ping gave me a B* an average of 61ms and a jitter of 3ms.

Re: iPhone 4S unable to connect

Hi drsuling

Thanks for your reply with the requested information. Your IP address is matched in range so that's fine. Your traceroute is also absolutely fine with no missing hops and reaching our network absolutely fine.

The next step would be to try the Sure Signal on an alternative connection to see if you encounter the same difficulties. If you get the same result then we'll need to contact you further for additional information.

Thanks

Simon

Re: iPhone 4S unable to connect

I'll try that tonight, but with little faith in the results - it's plugged into the back of the router.

Re: iPhone 4S unable to connect

Moving sockets on the home hub made no difference at all.

Next steps?
