sure signal v3 faulty by exploding

I have had a SS v3 for 15-16 months now and this morning, it decided to go 'pop' causing my ring main in one half of property to trip out. 

the unit is now usless and so is the item that was plugged in to the socket pass through. I had a low power chager plugged in at the time. 

I need it replaced but the call centre said i can buy a new one.

Oh really? the unit caused the situation so why should I pay out for another sure signal?

I used the live help and they were not that helpful. the guy sugested i buy a new one at full price. I am still awaiting a call back from yesterday via the support line.
