The new SIM will become active for you once you have received it and activated it. You may be able to activate the new SIM through your MyAccount (if you have one), or by calling customer services on 191 from your handset. SIM activation can take up to 24 hours to complete on the network, but is normally completed a lot quicker than this.

You can transfer the number and activate your new SIM by logging onto your online account and clicking manage SIM and devices. Alternatively, Customer Services will be able to do this for you which could be quicker.
A quick turn off of your original SIM and the number should be transferred, but could take up to 24 hours before the number is on your new SIM.
