Nokia Lumia 710 and Exchange over mobile internet!

I have a Lumia 710 running Mango and use it to connect to my corporate exchange account. Over a WiFi connection it works fine, I can send and receive mail to whoever I like. Over mobile internet, it will sync my mails and I can send / reply to anyone within my corporate network but when I try to send an email to anyone external to our exchange server (ie anyone on yahoo, gmail, hotmail or any other address) I get an error from Windows Phone saying it canot send and the message is save in my Drafts folder. It almost looks like it doesn't even try to connect to the server to send it.

Apart from this, when I delete mails from my phone, they do not delete from my mailbox on our server so the two are not really synchronising.

I have check the APN setting and it seems fine (wap.vodafone.co.uk)

Anyone got any ideas?

Very strange that adding an exchange account will not allow you to send email when setup on your device.

I have setup 2 separate exchange accounts just to see if it works and have had no issues, i would suggest trying a gmail account setup as an exchange account to see if that works and possibly try to remove/add the account again.

There is a hotmail account that works fine. It is just really weird that it works fine over a WiFi connection but not over mobile. After having a quick tinker with it yesterday I managed to (somehow) get it to delte mails both on phone and mailbox, and moving mails arouind also works. It will received external mails fine but will still not send to external acounts over mobile internet. Took it to the Vodafone shop and their guys are stumped too, basicaly there is no reason it shouldn't work over Mobile internet since it works over WiFi. The tech guys I phoned were useless and actually tried to tell me it wasn't compatible with Exchange...SERIOUSLY!!!! POssibly a phone problem, going back to the shop to speak to their "guru". I want them to try it in a new phone and see what happens. I only have a couple of days before I can reject the phone so hopefully they wil be able to sort it out ro I'm going back to my HTC!

How very strange indeed - It could have something to do with the IP address that is attempting to connect/send via the exchange server. I know that work/corporate exchange email certainly works on WP7 as my work email was setup on a trophy 7 (HTC windows phone device) and all of the standard features worked fine.

I believe that corporate directory even works now although i have not tried it recently.

the corporate server accepts all IP addresses, if it was an IP address issue I'd not expect to be able to get any access or be able to send mails internally. The error comes from teh phone, it isn;t a bounce back or anything and it is almost instant which is what makes me think it is the phone...or SIM...or just good old Vodafone!

Could be device related - there could be an update coming out for the WP7 devices soon which may resolve. It may also be worth wiping the device and starting it again.

The device is the only thing it can be, won't reply to anything, internal or external email addresses but will forward and can send to all.

Could be that the email app on the device is corrupt some how, very strange as i have not had issues like this with exchange.

If you can try a device wipe i would recommend this - backup contacts etc and start from fresh
