Nokia Lumia 800 WiFi connection s

Hi
I have had this phone for about a week now and the only WiFi networks I can connect to is the open BTFON (low bandwidth WiFi network supplied by BT).
Repeated attempts to connect to my own secure WiFi router fail.
This has been reported by others http://www.mobiletechworld.com/2010/11/09/windows-
Are others seeing this issue, and are Vodafone/Nokia looking at it?

Hi swindsor,
Firstly, a very warm welcome to the eForum
.
To be honest, this is the first time I've heard this mentioned. I've done a search too, and can't find any other reports other than the link you've provided.
Can you let me know which model of router you're trying to connect to? What type of security does it use? Also, what steps are you taking to connect via Wi-Fi? This should be done as follows:
- Press Settings
- Press Wi-Fi
- Turn Wi-Fi On
- Select the desired connection once it's found
- Enter the password
If these are the steps you're following already then I'd recommend trying with a friend's Wi-Fi network to see if this is just happening with your router or not.
Kind Regards,
George.

Hi.
Just checked again, and my Phone can connect to the two open networks, BTFON and BT-Openzone-H, without problems, but my home WiFi uses WPA/WPA2 via a Netgear DGN1000 that offes b/g/n connections.
All laptops, iPod Touches connect without issue so I believe this to be a phone related issue.
Thanks,
Simon

Hi
Can someone please provide an update on this?
This is a know issue, http://discussions.nokia.co.uk/t5/Nokia-with-Windo
As it appears to affect certain phones, will Vodafone replace mine?

I have connected my Lumia to at least 7 different WIFI connections with different setups WPA/WEP/WPA2 etc and have had no issues as of yet, even connecting to one of the WIFIOP plugs that expand the signal which has worked fine.
In order to narrow down the issues a list of what you have tried may help, perhaps trying to remove security from your router and re-applying after trying a connection with it open may be worth a shot.
A device wipe may also be worth performing, if you still have issues then maybe there is an issue with your particular device so taking the device back for a swap out or going to a Nokia repair centre may also be worth doing.

Hi
Sorry about the link, a trailing comma, so
My phone continually shows
Connection unsuccessful
Your phone couldn't connect to the WiFi
network XXXXX because there was no
response from the network. Please try
again later.
I can get a connectionn via BT-FON only and this is driving me mad. All other devices in the house have no problem so why my phone.
I have tried power on/off, soft reset and full reset but no difference

I have spent 41 minutes hanging on the phone to Vodafone CS, and the call has just been cancelled.
Not a good exmaple of customer support!

Hi
I have just disabled the screen lock, and been able to connect the my employers secure WiFi system for the first time.
I'll check my home WiFi tonight.
Very odd that disabling screen lock should allow WiFi connections, is this normal?

Hi
Last night I at last got through to CS, and after a few minutes it was suggested that the handset was faulty.
So today it was replaced, and WiFi connections are now now fine!.
Thanks for everyones suggestions.

I have this problem with a new Lumia 800 in London SW20. I can only detect two networks
ks (Sky & Network 1) does not detect Virgin,or Test.though I have forum available. My Lumia will not connect to either net work nor will it log in networks at friends house. Whereas Samsung Galaxy S" detects all and connects to all
So I am thinking that may be the Lumia (got from Amazon.UK) will not work with UK WiFi
It seems a nice phone but no use if it cannot do wifi so I plan to return it.
Happy Christmas

More information would be required to offer any level of assistance to see if anyone can replicate with a working Lumia.
How many WIFI routers have you tried to connect to?
Make/Model of router trying to connect to
Does your phone detect the router? (when searching for WIFI spots)
Can you enter the WEP/WPA key?
Does it register on the WIFI spot ok? (Show as connected in the WIFI menu)
What happens when you are connected? items not download? apps dont work?
One thing i have noticed is that occasionally even though it shows as connected the connection sometimes does not establish, simply switching off WIFI and switching it on again has resolved this.
Also make sure you are on the latest firmware for the device (Update via Zune)

Hi
I was also experiencing this issue along with an intermittent reception. After receiving my second handset with the same fault, I contacted Nokia.
The fix for me was to update my handset via Zune, both Windows and Nokia updates were applied.
Hope this helps

Hi there, I've generally had no probs with wifi, although BTOpenzone still eludes me!
The one problem I've had on wifi is at work, where we have a BT system: normal wifi connects seamlessly, but if I try to use the BTOpenzone (unsuccessfully!) the BTOpenzone then takes default position, so even though I can'tconnect to it it blocks me out of the normal wifi network. The fix appears to be to delete Openzone, at which point the normal network regains pole position.
Might be worth a try, best of luck!
