Nokia Lumia 800; any good?

A bit of advice please; is the new Nokia Lumia 800 any good? The only two things I can see as a disadvantage are lack of storage (I like to carry a lot of music with me) and screen size (I like 4" screen or more), but apart from that, how does it compare to iphone 4, for example?

Thank you

Re: Nokia Lumia 800; any good?

Comparisons are very difficult as what one person may like on one device someone else may dislike.

Personally i have an iOS device, Android device and the Lumia. My current phone as a personal one is the Lumia as i decided to retire the old 3gs. I would seriously recommend having a go of a WP7 device in a shop somewhere if you can or a friends to see if you like the look/feel of it (most people i have shown it too have liked it).

Yes the device comes with 16GB of storage and has a 3.7inch screen however this does not hinder the device anyway at all. For your pictures make sure they are stored on the cloud storage, rotate your music (its easy to change it around) have a look at Zune to see how you get on with it.

Personally at the moment i am preferring the Lumia to the 3gs although i would like to see some more game titles come to WP7.

Some things to know:

Its quick (the OS uses the single core very well)
It makes calls
Holds signal quite well (i have noticed at home where the iPhone struggled)
Apps available are growing daily and there are many good quality ones now available.
Native apps mean you dont need an app to perform basic tasks.
Facebook/Twitter integration is very good
Its easy to use.

Re: Nokia Lumia 800; any good?

Thanks for that, Jebelious, very useful and informative. I've had both Android (never really got on with it) and iOS (like it but, call me a snob, EVERYONE seems to have an iphone, which puts me off enormously!) but was considering something different for when my next upgrade came around. It looks like by that time (first half of next year) WP might well be worth a punt.

Thanks again!

Re: Nokia Lumia 800; any good?

I had the I phone4 up until 2 days b4 Christmas, the I phone 4 is a good phone but there are so many apps and a vast majority of them are not very good the picture quality is excellent, battery life is OK,and dosent have flash, apple have everything tied its either there way or no way which is a big problem in my view.

Iv played with the nokia lumia 800 for a good couple of days now and have to say the picture quality is excellent, the battery life since the update is very good, the apps are decent could do with more but they are coming, the camera is excellent and it opens up faster than the I phone and takes a better picture and faster than the I phone, and in my opinion it is faster and smoother than the I phone, and flash has been announced for the nokia,16 gb internal memory and 25gb free cloud storage is ample but you can buy more cloud storage if required.

so I have gone for the nokia and it is a great phone you wouldn't be disappointed.

[ Edited ]

I would recomend the Nokia highly, i currently have an iPhone 4S as my personal handset and always had a BlackBerry for work.

When i was given the option of replacing my trusty BlackBerry Bold for the Nokia 800 i was a bit sceptical but can honestly say it is the best move i have made. As the othesr have said the device is fast and responsive, intergrates well with my company's Exchange and takes good quality pictures. As an xbox gamer im also loving the intergration with my xbox profile.

I am finding myself using my Nokia more and more for everyday usage outside of work as my iPhone is turning into an expensive iPod :smileyvery-happy:

Make sure you update any software on the device via Zune, the battery for me is now lasting over 24 hours (12 hours if i use alot of games/make a few calls) but certainly 1 2 fold increase from when i actually purchased the thing :smileyhappy:

Re: Nokia Lumia 800; any good?

The update surely increased the battery lifetime! Overall the Lumia is a very good choice, the size of the screen never felt too small in my eyes but that's just my opinion. The Nokia music can solve the lack of memory as it includes up to 15 million free songs for you to use without filling up your memory. The iPhone 4 is very different compared to the lumia, personally i like the lumia more because of the integrated facebook, fast browser (html5 support) and the brand new feeling windows phone 7 brings you. Avoid this phone until they iron out the kinks it is a works in progress phone plagued by some serious faults all of which Vodafone UK's Dutch(Yesd Dutch)technical support morons have no idea how to deal with.

Re: Nokia Lumia 800; any good?

Quite a funny statement as i am having no issues what so ever with my device since the latest update (and previous one). My phone has not locked up/frozen for well over 2 months now since the updates so if you are having problems then i would suggest as per my other posts you look into getting a replacement or repair at a nokia repair centre.
