Vodafone redbox advert???

Erm.. can someone explain how the bloke in the advert had his contacts transfered from his old phone to his new Windows Phone using redbox?

Me thinks that there might be some redfaces in the vodafone ad department :smileywink:

Re: Vodafone redbox advert???

whoops...

My bad. I hadn't realised that Nokias have the contact transter app which works over bluetooth.

Is this the case with all Windows Phone 7 units now? Previously everything had to be transfered via a windows live account.

My apologies to the marketing team, btw, an enjoyable advert.

Re: Vodafone redbox advert???

Hi imaginarynumber,

It doesn't require any application on the phone if you visit a Vodafone store with RED Box, it's explained in more detail in this video:

Thanks,

Tom

Re: Vodafone redbox advert???

Thanks for the reply Tom.

Even after seeing that video I was still cynical given that it on the youetube page it says that it supports Windows Mobile rather than Windows Phone.

The only real way to get contacts on to the earlier generation Windows Phones was to open a Windows Live account and then use outlook (etc) to sync them with the Live account and then download them via the cloud.

So how does redbox do this? My usb on my HTC pro 7 only functions as a gateway with Zune on my PC.

BTW can redbox transfer sms, if yes it would be a great selling point.

Thanks

Or use something which injects the contacts directly into the pim.vol file in \Databases via the POOM API — or in reverse for removing contacts :smileyhappy:

Re: Vodafone redbox advert???

Hi imaginarynumber

Thank you for your post.

You can see on the advert posted above by Tom our community manager that the redbox is able to transfer Phonebook, SMS, Pictures, Audio/Music, Videos and Ringtones.

The redbox is essentially a computer that contains the necessary software that retrieves and converts files into common files for the majority of phones.

Many Thanks

Re: Vodafone redbox advert???

Im sorry to disagree with you here but recently I bought a new phone from Vodafone and asked for all my contacts, messages ect to be transfered from my old phone to the new one, the girl in the shop had to change my old sim for a new one, i was not asked to bring in a flash drive for back ups so didnt know i could do this, when i got home i found out that none of my saved text messages or ringtones or pictures had been transfered and about a third of my contact numbers where missing. So i didnt have a good experience of 'Redbox'..
