I have just purchased a Nokia 5230 to replace my previous broken one. This new one was previously registered in Spain, although I am a registered Vodafone PAYG user in the UK. I have managed to get it to receive SMS texts but am unable to send any. It just puts them in the Outbox. Has anyone any suggestions what I need to do to be able to send messages in the UK.

It maybe worth checking the messaging centre number.
Also I assume you have available text allowances or credit to send texts.
How-do-I-set-up-text-messages.

I have plenty of credit. Everything else works, calls in and out, messages in, just not messages out. How do I check the message centre number?

Try this, although it is for the Nokia 6730 if should be the same.
Press "Menu"
Scroll to Messaging, press "Select"
Scroll to Message settings, press "Select"
Scroll to Text messages, press "Select"
Scroll to Message centres, press "Select"
Scroll to Add centre, press "Select"
Scroll to Message centre name, enter Vodafone
Scroll to Message centre no., enter +447785016005
Press "Save"
Set as default message centre? will display, press "Yes

Have done that, still not sending messages. I'm sure it is just a case of a tick in a box! Anymore ideas? Thanks

Hi
Just a thought but the texts your trying to send. Are they devoid of any emoticons etc which would try and convert them to mms texts which sometimes needs customer service to provision the account for MMS

I changed message centre number, switched phone off and then back on again and it now appears to be working!. Thanks everyone for your help

@yewtrees57 Good to hear it is working.
After entering the number and rebooting the phone is what set the number you entered for you.

@yewtrees57 If the new phone was purchased originally from a Spanish network has the phone been unlocked?
