Unable to send or receive text messages

Help from anyone please.  For some time i have not been able to access the internet away fropm home depsite my settings being correct.  More recently I have discovered that I am not receiving some text messages and the problem seems to be getitng worse in that I can't receive messages from anyone or send them (send failure).

Have tried the obvious re-booting my phone and ensure the latest software update but to nno avail.

Even more bizarley, I have just received a WhatsApp message when away from the house and can now use Siri which I haven't been able to do in a while.

In summary, it seems that if I can access the internet, I can't send or receive messages or vice versa, not sure if they are connected or just co-incidence?

Can anyone shed any light?  Thanks in advance,

Is it iMessages or the normal sms messages that are the problem?

If you have updated the software then any glitches in the phone would have been cleared out.
