cant make phone calls! iphone 5

I upgraded to ios 8 last week and ever since I have not been able to make any phone calls! I have tried to call landlines and mobiles and when I press the call button absolutely nothing happens. It's kind of important for me to be able to use my phone as I'm a single mum. I have checked coverage and maintenance and there are no problems with either. Is it down to the software update or is it a problem with my phone? I can still get incoming calls from landlines but don't know about mobiles.

We're not aware of any issues with iOS 8.  Please try the steps in our Network Troubleshooting thread.
