sim card says no sim in iphone 4

hey i brought a vodafone uk sim from off ebay so i could use it to unlock my iphone 4 thats locked to your guys network but when i put the sim in my iphone or any other fone it comes up saying no sim does that mean there is no number on the simcard?

Hi. There should already be a SIM number and mobile number attached to the card. It sounds like either a fault with the SIM card connectors or a problem with the connectors within the iPhone. It's worth checking with a different SIM (which would narrow it down being an iPhone problem - confirming it's the SIM card at fault in which case you may need a replacement).
