iPhone 4 and 4S

Since i can't get the wife's 4s unlocked because of reasons I've explained in a previous post  i thought I'd go ahead with and use the vf payg Sim i got.untill i can get it unlocked. now i have a problem in that the 4s wont stop downloading emails .... theres over 12,000 of them !!!!  every time i connect it downloads 50 at a time. anyone please tell me how i stop this .... please !

Hi,

You can customise the email account settings on the phone depending on how many emails you might want to download from your inbox.

First thing to try wuld be to go to Settings > Mail, Contacts and Calendars > Mail > Show > select how many emails you want to show, ranging from 50 recent to 1,000 recent

Sorry but this did not solve the problem ... i need to stop downloading over 12,000 old email !!!! and load only new ones .....

What email account are you using?

Are all these 12,000 odd emails unread in your email account?

Other than checking that, there are no other settings that would change how the iPhone downloads emails I’m afraid

It seems they are emails that go back years !! on my old iphone 4 i didn't have this problem plus my incoming Mail Server was a  "pop" Host. but on my 4s the only incoming server i can use is a "imap" Host? or am i wrong? could this have anything to do with the phone wanting to load 12,000+ email ..... ???

I found a cure for this problem ......  To stop my iphone loading old emails ( 12,0000) 50 at a time!! i deleted all old emails from server ... like in my case it was NTLWorld (Virginmidea) any important one just untick and save.... Easy peasy !!! now my iphone just loads new mail ...

I’m glad to hear that you managed to work around this.

You can use either IMAP or POP3, just use the respective server when setting up the account on your iPhone and it’ll configure the relevant one.
