Ending calls

I (and lots of other people i know with an iphone on vodafone) am having trouble with my iphone.

When i try to end a call it just hangs there and takes about 3 minuites to end.

I booked an appointment with my local genius bar and they knew what fault i had before i fully explained it.

They said that this is a known issue with vodafone and there is nothing wrong with the phone and nothing they can do.

Are we the only ones experiencing this?

I rang Vodafone help and they seemed to know nothing about it.

I got fobbed off with the usual "reset network settings" which didnt work!!!

Can anyone shed any light on the fault?

I dred to think how much this is costing me in extra call costs!!

Re: Ending calls

Both myself and my other half have iphones, one of which was purchased on Saturday and we are both experiencing the same problem on every call we make and receive. We also have a number of friends who have Nokia phones on the vodaphone network and they are experiencing the same problem. Someone in my office is with T Mobile and they are also experiencing the same problem!. So what is going on with the network?. This is a very frustrating problem as we are incurring extra call costs at our expense!

Re: Ending calls

I must admit I have never heard of this before.

But if the problem also exisits on the T Mobile network it would seem to point to a problem with the phones rather than a VF network problem.

As a matter of interest were the calls that failed to terminate on earpiece or speakerphone?

Re: Ending calls

All the calls were made/answered normally, no earpieces or on Speaker phone. My iphone was purchased in December and has been fine up until a couple of months ago and like I said my other halfs phone was purchased on saturday. We have tried other makes/models of phone's just to see if the problem is just on the iphones but the call ending problems is happening on every phone we have tried. Vodaphones suggstion was to upgrade to the latest version and this would solve the problem......unfortunately this hasnt helped at all. As far as I can tell other people we have spoken to have also not had any problems with their phones up until a couple of months ago.

Re: Ending calls

I am utterly shocked and disgusted that vodafone have not commented on this issue yet.

Just goes to show how they care about their customers.

Re: Ending calls

Hi markdooler

Welcome to the eForum :smileyvery-happy: it is always good to see new faces on here.

To let you know we do reply back to all questions in the order they are received, this is the fairest way for all of our customers.

There are several colleagues who have the iPhone who work on the forum, and we have never encountered this issue. This is the same with all of the other handset we all have too.

This is also the first time I have heard that this is happening.

It does sound like an issue with the phone, when you press the end call button the call disconnects immediately, again this is what happens with everyone here.

The only thing that I can suggest is to send the phone away for repair.

Re: Ending calls

Thanks for your reply.

I can name about 10 people that are having this exact fault. 3 of them work in my office.

Vodafone are still claiming a fault with the phone and apple are still claiming a fault with the network.

Surly as a customer I should not have to brunt the costs and be stuck in the middle.

Vodafone have offered to sen the phone away but what good is that when the manufacturer are saying there is nothing wrong with the phone????

On top of that I can't afford to be without a phone for any amount of time whilst it is sent away.

If coffins think it's a fault with the phone then they should pit their money where there mouth is and send me a knew one.

We will then see if its the phone or not. I still don't believe that the 10 people I know have all developed the exact same fault at the exact same time. Not only that, they are a mixture of different model iPhones with different levels of firmware.

I think this should be sorted as I am at the end of my wits with the issue.

Re: Ending calls

Hi,

My iPhone has been doing this as well. It worked fine up until about two weeks ago. I have spoken to friends that are also on voda and the have the same problem. One has an htc desire and another has an hd mini. It's a really frustrating problem that is costing us all money.

Please let us know a cure!!
Thanks

Re: Ending calls

I have registered on this forum just to mention that I am experiencing this problem too.

I have had my iPhone 3GS for 2 years now and have only had this problem since I joined Vodafone 2 months ago. Whilst I disagree that it is an issue with the hardware, I am unsure whether the problem lies with vodafone or the latest iOS version (4.3.5) that was released at a similar time (25/07/11).

There have been a few 3G issues in my area (RG1) that are mostly sorted now but I find that the 'ending call' hangs mostly when I have not made or received a call for a while and I have possible been in a no service area. Turning the phone on or off, or toggling the airplane mode to reregister the handset seems to fix it. I don't know if it is important but it mostly occurs when I am talking to someone on a landline.

Regards
Doug

Re: Ending calls

Hi Doug

I have been experiencing this issue on firmware 4.3.3, 4.3.4 and 4.3.5 so it cant be the software update that has caused it.

The strange thing is that i am also having the issue in the RG1 area. Maybe it is localised to the Reading area?? Is there a problem with the masts in this area?

In any case i dont think Vodafone are doing enough to rectify the situation. All they are doing is fobbing us off (in my opinion).

I am highly dissappointed.

Re: Ending calls

Hi markdooler

I can understand where you’re coming from and feeling stuck in the middle.

If you can give me a full postcode area where you have had this problem and a time and date when this happened I will check the network interactions on that, I have emailed you so I can look into setting up a network trace to see if this is a network issue.

Thanks

Re: Ending calls

It seems like this must be effecting the rg post code area only.

This just re-affirms the fact that it's not a phone issue but a network issue as I have already said.

Re: Ending calls

Hi

Just found this forum and found it very interesting, because I am having the frustrating time trying resolve this problem.

My partner and I have the exactly the same issue in Reading (RG4) area. We got our iPhone 4 over a year ago and had no problems what so ever until around August time. Can not remember if started before or after the latest IOS upgrade 4.3.5. However, both phones started to drop calls and were randomly unable to end calls. The call dropping was resolved by switching of 3G, although it was working perfectly well before.

As for the end call problem, I have so far had my phone replaced by the Apple store, made hardware resets and restores on a regular basis (every time I speak to Vodafone) and replaced the sim. Now the latest Vodafone support answer was that I have too many apps that was causing the problem. So I restored my phone again and set it up as new phone with no additional apps and with the first call I made, I was unable to end the call and had to switch it off!!

Additionally, our daughter told us she and her friends on Vodafone were experiencing the same problems, although her phone is a Nokia. I cannot verify this though and was not sure whether she was after a new phone before she goes to uni.

Re: Ending calls

Hi Steve

When your 3G started to play up in August, did your signal drop to no service and even when you did have signal were you able to make calls?. I experienced problems making calls, the phone was saying it was ringing the person but there was no ringing tone on the phone, I spoke to Vodafone and they advised me to reset the phone, 3G still isn't working properly, once switched on the signal drops automatically.

Re: Ending calls

Hi all,

I've experienced this same problem with my iPhone 3GS on Vodafone, as has a colleague with the same phone on the same network. We work in the RG6 area (Thames Valley Park) and I live in OX11 and have also experienced the problem there. It started happening about 1-2 weeks ago - can't be sure but may have also been related to the iOS 4.3.5 update (although my recollection is that update happened longer ago than the problem started). Fairly infrequent problem but happens often enough to be a pain. It first seems to show itself as the keypad not responding during a call (e.g. call traffic line and can't use the automated prompts). Then when I try to hang up I'm unable to and have to power cycle the phone. On other occastions, after I hit 'End Call' it does eventually hang up but takes 10-15 seconds to do so.

Glad I'm not going mad. Let's hope we get to the bottom of it somehow.

Tom
